how do you convert a .dat file to a Mpg file....... and will it play on quicktime on my laptop..

I don't actually know, but you can open and play .dat files with Microsoft Media Player 6.1 (free: at www.microsoft.com/downloads) or the Xing Player.

Quicktime only plays MPEG movies on MAC machines not PCs.

I have a MAC with Quicktime 4, it plays both .dat and .mpeg.
