Y2K - like hell in California

Yep, I knew it. It's hard to guess who will get hit the hardest but LA is definitely going to be an asylum. Can you imagine that if the media is still operational (those vultures will probably be out in full force) we might be reading hundreds of stories like this every day? The bigger the city the riskier it is.

But the lady from Yuba City got burned, and Yuba City is at least 600 miles from LA. The California Department of Motor Vehicles has always been a pimple on my butt, I hope they come crashing down!

You know the problem with a lot of folks in Southern California? I think they've been living too long under the threat of the "THE BIG ONE"...If they're not concerned about sliding into the ocean, how are you ever going to convince them that their "Paradise" will cease to function next year because of some computer glitches?

-- TM (mercier7@pdnt.com), October 05, 1999.

LA is Paradise? PLLLEEEAAAZZEEEEEE! We'll see how fast "paradise," becomes a ghost town the first quarter of the year. There's not enough space to bury everyone, only room enough to burn them. To gruesome to think about, pray it won't happen...the consequence of too many people living in too little of space.

Note, the problems began just after January '99 and have persisted through much of the year, yet the newspaper and other media didn't think that it was worthy of coverage.

If anything is emblematic of the irrelevance of traditional news media, this is it. A whole state boluxed up, affecting drivers, impounded cars, vital nutrition programs, etc. and the media response is a collective Yawn!

I know from first-hand experience that you are right. A relative lives right near where the Northridge quake was. When I mentioned Y2K she said "if we survived the quake we can survive anything". HAH! They had a brief power outage, a few stores closed, and a couple road closures lasting for a few days. No idea what they're in for.

-- @ (@@@.@), October 05, 1999.

K. Stevens,

You are correct that the media largely ignores this problem in advance of anything disastrous actually happening. That is why I refer to them as vultures, because as soon as people start getting hurt and dying they will be out in droves. They will zero in on the blood and lick it up, savoring every drop.

pimple butt,

If you live in LA you better get the hell out. That lady might have been 600 miles from LA, but Glendale is only about 20 miles away. The article is written from Sacramento because that is the state capital and DMV main office, but I believe the problems are occuring throughout California, and there will be mayhem in LA soon. Go now!

You'll notice I put word Paradise in quotations...IMHO, I'm not sure how people can call that living. But then again, what do I know! I live in a town of less than 4000.

Greeeeeen Ac-res is the place to be, farm li-vin' is the life for me...

-- TM (mercier7@pdnt.com), October 05, 1999.

put some clearasil on that butt and get it movin before it gets shot off!

--@: I'm so happy that you are thinking of me and my pimpled butt! Well, don't worry your pretty head over me, cause I'm NO WHERE near LA! I'm several hundred miles away, up in thar hills! Saw it coming a long time ago, the opportunity came, and I hit the road. There's several transplants from S. CA, but they don't like to tell people where they are from, they don't like outsiders here. You got to get rid of the threads and fit in. A word for those planning to come to the hills. Get rid of the BMW, the designer jeans, and start practicing in front of the mirror on being a hick. Keep your mouth shut, don't act uppity, just smile and wave, and don't get friendly with the neighbors.

It's 12:12 am on October 5, 1999. Contrary to popular belief L.A. is still here and it hasn't started it's slide into the ocean or the pit of hell. Of course, it's dark out and I can't see much. I can hear the crickets chirping so I have hope. Check back in a few hours...I'll try to post again.

Does hell have access to the www? roflmao!!!!

Not enough water. Death by thirst. Dirty and smelly too.

The next day, when Wilson inquired at the DMV office, she was told that computer outages on March 19 "resulted in driver's license records not updating properly to the database."

Hey Pimple Butt!

Am I the one you were referring to? :) I am from Yuba City and had major problems (no internet access at all) for several weeks this summer but finally, after 8 days, MCI Worldcom finally stepped up to the plate and admitted fault. I have had problems with "all circuits are busy" using the usual Pac Bell lines for accessing long distance for voice, but better now. This reminds me to get the cb hooked up in my car and plenty of rechargeables for my portables (have solar re- charger for small batteries - works great on the Nickel metal hydride).

Hum, de, dum, de, dum. Boy will I be glad when rollover is here and behind us - I hate suspense - even duck my head when watching horror movies - it's not the blood and guts, it's the suspense that gets me.... sigh......

Kristi, I don't know if your the one the newspaper article was talking about, but I listen to the police scanner a lot (I listen the the CHP, etc), and I sometimes hear the dispatcher say that they cannot locate information, etc. I get the "all circuits are busy," recording all the time, I'm use to it now. BTW, I use to live in Yuba City, I live further north now.
