Nikon CP700 or Olympus D450Z ??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I've narrowed down my search to two cameras - models and important specs follow:

Nikon Coolpix 700 -- 2.0+ megapixel & great reviews !!! BUT - no optical zoom

Olympus D450 Zoom -- 3x optical zoom/2x digital zoom & good reviews !!! BUT - only 1280 x 960 resolution.

Decision, decisions. Optical zoom is somewhat important to me. But, so is the ability to print output w/ high enough resolution. Trade-off here I guess. I've narrowed it down to these two cameras mainly due to the sub $450 price on both on the net.

Can you help me sway my decision one way or the other?

Will you regret not having optical zoom? Maybe not. More likely, you will cry yourself to sleep every night. :) In this price range I vote for canon A50. The oly has aperture priority and spot metering, the other two don't, if that matters. I think the nikon has a little better image quality, and good macro. The A50 is even smaller than the 700. No 3x zoom 2mpix models in this price range yet.
