LEDs - How do you make Photon key chain lights?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just received some LEDs from the last bulk order Odd One made. I didn't realize (duh!) that it would be just a bulb and not a whole little light! I now have a copy of Forrest Mims *Getting Started in Electronics* and I need some input on where to get plastic cases and switches so I can come up with a finished product.

Thanks, Sylvia

You could use a flashlight bulb base to mount the LED and resistor.

Just break the glass off first, solder, mount with RTV silicone, etc.

Yes?

See My photo layout on converting lightbulbs to LED bulbs.

Sylvia,

Not to horn in on somebody else's territory (lol), but I've been making led flashlights for different parties for a while...my son is a marine and uses a deep ruby red one I made for night time map reading - one loses very little night vision using that particular color...others I have made are bright amber, yellow, and a few other colors...do you have any tinkering skill? I could e-mail you a material list and a simple schematic for how I put them together if you feel inventive. Not a lot to the little suckers; you would need a soldering gun and a screw driver, and about $8 worth of miscellaneous components from Radio Shack. The one my son uses is still going strong on 2 AAA batteries...he uses it a lot.

The next WRP will include pages of information on working with LEDS. I have articles and emails from a dozen people and will put in up shortly.
