Y2K Completion on Airports and Airlines

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

"Summary of the United States Year 2000 Status as Reported to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)" "This resolution invited ICAOs 185 member states to publish appropriate aeronautical information on the Year 2000 (Y2K) status of their aeronautical services. The United States has completed and submitted the Y2K compliance status of its air traffic services and the 113 airports and 146 airlines that provide international service. "

"The Y2K completion information is based on information provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and is self-reported ICAO technical question response information from airports and airlines."

I'm very sorry, but I'm link challenged. It's dated Sep. 29, 1999. The most alarming sentence, to me, in this report is, "...or will complete the Y2K repair process by the end of September 1999 and all report they PLAN to complete the Y2K repair process by the end of December 1999. This is where I found it.

www.y2ktransport.dot.gov/fly2k/

It was a link from the Department of the Interior, and they make a fairly amusing statement:

"Once again, Congressman Horn gave us an "A-" as compared to the "B-" grade given to the government as a whole. DOI and its bureaus have completed remediation, validation, and implementation on 100% of its 90 mission critical systems. And, as of 4/23/99, all mission critical systems have been Independently Verified and Validated (IV&V). Y2K work continues on embedded microchip and telecommunications problems and business contingency planning."

www.doi.gov/oirm/y2k/news.html

I'm unclear on the concept. Are they saying they only have embedded chips, and continue work on telecommunications problems and business contingency plans, on their non-mission critical systems?

Is this bureaspeak?

Al-d,

What is the "=" sign supposed to represent in your posts? Your latest use of it translates to "this is equal age of tall ones". Sorry but I just don't get it.

Before you start thinking that I'm attacking you, don't. I've defended you in the past (when others thought copycat posts were yours) and I also tryed to help you with your typing/communication skills (as "just trying to help" & "typing 101").

I think that many of your posts have a decent message hidden within but one usually has to dig pretty deep to find it. I can guarantee you that most people don't want to have to study a post to figure out what it means.

I'm being as sincere as I can when I ask you to please stop with all the symbols. Your posts will have much more meaning, appear more intelligent and your messages will be clearer if you just say what you mean without the symbols. That is what you want isn't it? The way they stand now, they just appear to be incoherent ramblings for the most part.

I THOUGHT = MEANS EQUALS. LIKE let,s see er,ok. pride=dum-dum. pride-equals-dum dum. man all that typing is hard on 1 finger.no seriously i appreciate your civility. i may not be a college grad. but i got enough sense to know-GOD means what he say.s.

Al-d,

I know what your trying to say. It's just that it's often very hard to interpret the point your trying to make. I'll use your latest example (pride=dum-dum). I think you would lose most people on this because it's just not so. There's nothing wrong with having pride in one's self or what one does. I'm proud of my accomplishments in life therefore I have pride. I suppose one could have too much pride or unjust pride (which is what I think you meant).

I have a wonderful wife and 2 wonderful sons. I devote lots of my extra time to working with the local youth in my community. I go out of my way to help people. When I was working (before a back injury) I did the best job I could. I take pride in all of these things and more. So the simple example you give isn't really correct. Pride doesn't equal being dumb. See what I'm saying?

One also doesn't need a college education to be able to communicate. Technically, I only have a 8th grade education. I further educated myself and went on to get my GED and then put myself through the police acadamy at A&M at 18 years of age. I have almost always excelled at what I chose to do. I have pride in these accomplishment also.

As far as people flaming you, I can say from experience that most people don't like religion constantly presented to them. I have recently converted to Christianity (from agnostic) and I can truly say that it really irritated me to have people constantly trying to convert me. In fact, it may have even turned me further away from Christianity. People just don't like having it constantly shoved in their face. There's nothing wrong with preaching the word (Word?) of Christ (or any other belief) as long as the ones you're preaching to want to hear it. Know what I mean?

HI NOKTERNAL,yes i,m afraid i come across as a bible-thumper, but jesus said go warn them,& i feel we,re close to the end,i don,t mean to offend-but i truly believe we,,re in much danger[n.w.o.] is satanic plus i study-prophecy, i believe we,re in begining of time of sorrows like the world has never seen.if only 1 soul gets saved, it,s worth all the critisizm-jesus said to go into all the world-this forum is IN the world. how can any [true] christian not care, that millions will go into a godless-eternity.it,s 1 thing if they,ve never been warned[god is merciful] but america is bible-hardened. they,ve heard of jesus, they reject him-there fate is worse.[HE IS COMING]

Al-d,

I agree. I feel that we are indeed approaching very dangerous times. I truly hope that we are wrong.

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Al-d......

You're right, America is Bible hardened.....but why do you think that is?

I'll tell you why I think that. Because people are sick and tired of the repetitive unintelligent ranting and criticism that seems to be the hallmark of this extreme fundamentalism that exists.

Let me put it in perspective. I have a very good friend, a Pastor of a small church, who comes from Scotland. He has Pastored in both America and Europe.......and he says that this extreme fundamentalism attitude is purely an American thing.......it is a cultural 'in your face' thing that most of Christianity finds very distasteful.

It's an American Fundamentalist attitude that America is God's favorite country and God is a right-wing conservative.........Most of the world abhors this silly idea yet is passes as the absolute unquestioned truth.

It's an attitude that you just jolly well got to get the world 'saved' and in your case, you use endless repetition to try and drill it in......a very in your face method.........which makes people sick of the Bible because they assume that by believing it they will become the same way ---- chanting repetitive unthinking people.

Please understand that in no way is this any criticism of your heart or right intentions.....it is not.....it is a criticism of the methods that again, much of the world finds annoying.

The focus in scripture is on LOVE and helping others........however by and large, the attitude in Fundamentalist America is on power and me-firstism........

You can see it in many of the posts here.....any talk of foreign aid (helping others) is slashed and criticized........America tops the world in desiring the death penalty.....FORGIVENESS hardly exists........the personality of Jesus is foreign to the spirit of fundamentalism.

Rambling incoherently, no matter how well intentioned, is not the Gospel. Take the day off and go and take some groceries to a single mom.......visit the sick........focus on forgiveness........

The Gospel is not some 400 pound preacher waving his finger angrily at those who smoke and drink. The Gospel is going into the local malls and taverns, and having a coffee or a beer with someone new, and taking a real concern for them, finding out how you can help them.

There are so many good things going on out there but American Fundamentalism will not open up its eyes to acknowledge them. I spoke with a lady yesterday who was telling me how her 19 year old daughter gave up all her weekdays to look after her Grandmother who is suffering terribly from Alzheimers disease.......This selfless act coming from someone who hasn't set foot in a church in years......

That's the Gospel. That's love. And most of America is sick of the psuedo-gospel with its smug 'we're the only ones who possess the truth' mentality.

I have news for you. If God were to come back today, he wouldn't be heading for San Franciso or Atlantic City or the bars or the Bookies......he'd be in the Fundamentalist churches teaching the decived masses the real definition of love.

There, off my soapbox now.........
