FYI: Y2K on Focus on the Family, Monday and Tuesday

Dobson had Larry Burkett talking Y2K on Monday; the rest of the interview airs Tuesday. Pretty level-headed discussion so far, IMO. You can hear it on Dobson's site at family.org.

Didn't Larry Burkett write a book predicting a depression about 6 years or so ago? I read the book and loaned it out......

The Coming Economic Earthquake, back in 1994. Mr. Burkett's a very old-fashioned guy when it comes to finance and economics, and he's an ex-programmer, to boot. I've always enjoyed his financial advisories and agree completely with his "take" on Y2K.

I heard the Dobson program last night. I agree it was a pretty level- headed presentation. Not alarmist at all. But Burkett did point out that there is a great deal that is unknown, and that errors may very well accumulate in systems and ultimately bring them down.

He also mentioned the low percentage of remediation that has been done in small businesses, which employ most of the workers in America.

If you read Burkett's book, "Solar Flare" you will get an idea of what he may be expecting. I think he is a pretty savvy fellow.

Gene,

would you tell us what Dobson is expecting, from what he wrote in "Solar Flares"?

My apologies,What is Mr.Burkett expecting?

maggie... I read the book last winter. In the novel, the solar flare ramifications temporarily reverse the magnetic poles, and destroy everything from CD players to cars, planes crash etc. The Americans had a president with integrity who was willing to take a big risk since the scientists who specialized in that knowledge did not all agree, but it was a global problem. People end up in shelter/communities which were as good or as bad as the leaders they had. Cities were toast because of arson and violence etc.

Mumsie, thanks,I had read about solar flares at the repository web site and it didn't sound to good.

i only heard part of it last night but already knew that larry burkett says he is feeling somewhat better than he had felt about it before because so much has been done. sounds like he is preparing food and warmth and water for about a month now. didn't hear the financial though. i don't think he has ever advocated selling everything or pulling all your money out. (yes, and he has admitted he was wrong about his earlier 1996 predictions that did not come to pass)

interesting discussion about how they both have been attacked by someone in the christian community for being "alarmist". can i guess that it was hank hannegraff? too bad because, as larry was saying, the alarmists have actually done a good service to this country in scaring the govt, the public, the corporations enough to get them off their (can i say it?) butts. they had even given dobson a hard time for GIVING EACH OF HIS EMPLOYEES $500 TO PREPARE (OR TO JUST SPEND THE MONEY HOW THEY SAW FIT)!!!!!! isn't that a great thing that he did? love in action. put your money where your mouth is.
