Changes...euy2k.com becomes Energyland.net

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

I'm going to guess that most of the folks who follow this forum do so either through email or direct entry to the forum, rather than coming in through the euy2k.com website. At one time or another, though, you probably have followed some of the news and columns on euy2k.com.

Some of you have written recently and asked why euy2k.com hasn't apparently been updated in awhile - well, it's because I've been working to incorporate the best of euy2k.com into a new website, Energyland.net. Starting today, you'll be able to get into Energyland.net - in fact, if you use euy2k.com, you'll be automatically redirected to Energyland.net.

Don't fret - I haven't lost my focus, which is Y2k - but it's important to plan for the future, as well. As Energyland.net grows, I hope you find the content useful (particularly, the state by state database of energy related information, and the dynamic news content).

It's taken a lot of work and hours to get the new website up and running. Many people contributed to this process behind the scenes, and I appreciate the help. My company, CSAmerica, is looking to add a few good people to help with Energyland.net - so if you think you might be one of those people who has the talent to work in a "virtual environment", drop me a line. And yes, it's a real job (translated - this isn't a volunteer effort).

If you have any feedback on Energyland.net, pro or con, or if some part of the site isn't working, please let me know. If your particular state doesn't have any information at the moment, it's only because we initially have concentrated on building information for those states that have enacted deregulation legislation, and consumers can make choices on energy providers. Your state may not be to that point yet (but they certainly will be...). We'll be populating the state energy info database over the next couple weeks for all states.

In the near future, I'll also be setting up a discussion group for deregulation issues that is similar to the Y2k forum. While I don't expect it to be nearly as active (or fun) as this forum, I hope we'll get some traffic and good questions through there...

(Site eratta: if you came into the website earlier today with Netscape, and the left menu frame wasn't working properly, give it another try. We had a tables problem whereby the left menu wasn't displaying properly. It's been fixed.)

Rick,

The new web site, Energyland, looks real classy. I hope this reaches a lot of people and returns to you the satisfaction you deserve. Good job. A wealth of information.

Gordon - thanks for the kind words, and your "beta" feedback was much appreciated.

FF (and everyone else) - this doesn't mean I've run up the white flag on Y2k. Much to the contrary. ;-) I think the latest Senate report gives us much to consider, Y2k wise, in the near future. I'll be commenting in depth on Thursda

Rick,

Congratulations on your new site. It looks great. As a resident of Florida, I did notice one small problem. The St. Lucie nuclear plant, owned by Florida Power and Light, is not shown on the Florida map or mentioned in the narrative that discuss's sources of power in Florida.
