How do you make whitewash (for livestock dwellings, etc.)? Help!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I'm getting ready to do the fall cleaning of the chicken coop (my first time!) and one of the chores will be scaping/sanding the chipped & peeling paint off the walls (jeepers, even I knew you aren't supposed to use regular paint on interior walls... who did this, anyway? Grumble, scrape, gripe, scrape...)

What I need is for someone to tell me where whitewash comes from. I know, it's a stupid question, but I know my grandma used to make it up herself, from white powder & water. But what was the white powder? I tried to research on the web, but I got tons of pages about gov't & media whitewash, not the kind that you paint with.

Help!

Arewyn,

This site offers white wash making and using, and alot of other tips, most based on goat care and dairy products.
