BEST DIGIT. CAMERA UNDER $500

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hello.

Could you please give me your recommendations for best digital camera under $500. I am currently considering the Sony Mavica FD73 (can't find a review of it anywhere) and the HP C30. Any thoughts?

I will be using the camera to film figure model kits that are about 10 to 20 inches high. I will be using the pictures for e-mail and Internet posting.

Lastly, whatever you do recommend, can you please tell me what trustworthy store has the camera for the best price?

Thanks,

Dave

Well the FD-73 is useless for anything but the internet. It's cake to use but the pictures are quite awful in my opinion. Get a Kodak DC 215 for $399 or the DC215 Gold Edition with a bundled USB reader and bigger Flash card for $499. I tried them at CompUSA and they are MUCH better cameras than the FD73 or FD83 for that matter.

Go for the Nikon Coolpix 700!! It has MANY of the features of its bigger brother, and it can be found for $450-$500 at many online retailers right now (check www.shopper.com for an up to the moment list) The 700's 1200x1600 resolution sill give you AWESOME sharpness when downsampling to on screen sizes!
