This stuff is supposed to happen in one day and in one hour.....hmmmm.

8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. 9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, 10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. 11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: 12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, 13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. 14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! 17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, 18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! 19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. 20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. 22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; 23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

COMING SOON TO YOUR WORLD.

-- most won,t get-it.don,t want to (dogs@zianet.com), September 18, 1999.

Pastor David Meyer of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, was led by the Holy Spirit to make another trip to New York City.

While he was there viewing the magnificence of that vast metropolis, he heard a voice say, "This is Babylon."

I interpret his message to indicate that New York City, the financial hub of the world, will be that commercial Babylon mentioned in Revelation Chapter 18.

Pastor David Wilkerson of Times Square Church has also been told by God that New York City is Babylon, and he intends to preach the Gospel until the very end.

I am so happy that there are Christian ministers who will not bow before the god of this world.

Do you know why they call it Babylon? Because everything that was said on this thread is babble-on and on and on.

I'm not a christian, in the sense that I don't really understand some articles of belief (sacrifice, virgin birth etc.), but to me the existence of God is intuitively obvious. I certainly benefit from the wisdom and inspiration offered by the Bible, as do we all, if only indirectly. One thing is clear: the importance of the judaeochristian moral standard (or any such standard at all!) has been trivialized, and is systematically under attack by utopian socialists, and additionally, as this biblical quote would suggest, men who are consciously committed to evil (whether on a spiritual or merely philosophical plane, who can say) in hope of material gain.

This verse speaks to me. It should speak to all of us. I'm grateful to the author, and to eyeswideopen, for posting it.

Whoa, hold it folks. I sure don't know for certain, but I don't think it is the end of the world. I think we might be headed for a lot of inconvenience. I was thinking also, along the lines that we were the most wicked of people to live. Children killing children, etc. Then I saw a couple of documenteries. One was about the era when they were chopping everyones heads off. Neighbor judged neighbor, off with their head. What about the Kings who had their wives beheaded? Another era where they sacrificed other humans to the Gods. Burned them, chopped them up. In light of that, I don't think we are the most evil people to live. Seems like we have advanced. Please take the time to read Ecclesiates. A sad Prophet indeed, who said time goes on. Jesus may come soon, but remember, his book says, we will not know when, and we will be caught off guard.

-- Nana (drac@mediaone.net), September 18, 1999.

Nana,

Please correct me if I am wrong, where does the Bible say "WE" will be caught off guard.

I understand that some will not be "caught off guard" but the "elect" will be deceived. I understand the Bible to say that some may walk true in faith at the time of the second coming and gain admission to Paradise.

Also, see Rev 12:6 - And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Read Zechariah 5:5-11. This Prophet saw a vision of future babylon.

PS, Shinar is an ancient district where babylon was located. The basket which contained the woman (the same women found in scarlet in revelations) represents commerce.

Mystery Babylon represents the finacial systems of the worlds, at least this is what I think. ww

Funny you should mention the passage about "Babylon the Great" in the Bible. For many weeks now I have had this recurring thought as events have unfolded: WE-the U.S.-are Babylon. As for Clinton... If he isn't the winner of the Anti-Christ contest, he sure must be first runner- up!

Yes, semper paratus, there is. However, we post this stuff just for you, so you may have a chance to get to know Jesus too. Y2K isn't an accident. karen

Hey, semper, I'm "always" gonna' agree with you on that score. I DO wonder why it is that such people feel the irresistable need to kibitz as they do. They need to read William Blake-- ". . .the image of Christ that thou doest see is my own vision's worst enemy. . ."

I gotta' admit-- I've lurked here for a long time, and have been able to sluff off the stuff that passes for personal opinion (on so-called religion and Y2K alike); but lately, I've just about had all the "God Squad" (as you aptly put it) drivel that I can tolerate (tonight) without posting my own personal "antidote" to it all.

Qouting the Dali Lama, "The Buddha's neither wash away misdeeds with water nor remove sorrows with their hands; nor transfer their realizations to others. Beings are liberated through the teachings of the truth-- the final reality."

Randolph ( others ). We truly are in the end days. Back in the early eighties, I knew it would happen in 2000 (premonition), but I couldn't see how ! I was certain of one thing only; when it said in Revelations that you could neither ... " buy nor sell ", unless you took the sign of the beast ( or the name of the company ), that it had to do with NO MORE MONEY ! That is, the control of credits (logged in some bank of computers as plus and minus credits , still electronic money , in a "cashless" society ) via scanners ( you have the " mark " , you can ; you haven't , you don't .) This is why I think the dollar, yen, or whatever currency has at best 2 years to be phased out, as the "beast" reveales himself, and starts his 'mirricle' healing of the Y2K mess, to everyones delight, except the few who recognize who he is and the power it gives him. This is why you need the seeds, tools, land , etc. to outlast his last year and a half in control. Low profile; a MUST ! A little gold or silver (better) for the black market trades you'll have to do because you can't store everything you can't raise. Good news ? There's a 1000 years of peace and quiet coming after the beast is put down, and those who resisted the mark get to live it all, pain free !!! Love it ; at 71, you have a few more every week . LOL Eagle

-- Hal Walker (e999eagle@freewwweb.com), September 18, 1999.

Hey, "semper"-- there ya' have it. . . straight from the keyboard of "poser" (whose tired "dogs" are "barking" shouting (via caps lock) to not tell him to leave this forum and that we "MUST LISTEN".

I note, with interest, that one of the dictionary definitions of the word "pose" (in which word "poser" must derive much personal identity) is, "to strike attitudes for effect".

My present (re)realization is that this forum is like attending a "Twelve Step" meeting, where not everyone follows the preferred custom of confining remarks to "'I statements'", and where the dictum is, "take what you like and leave the rest". . .

Peace, bro.

Hey Dewer Dye, thanks. I knew I wasn't alone. I hear you about "leaving the rest" -- I just wish the rest would leave. Did you read the part about how they are posting this stuff for us? Like cuting and pasting from some bible site is going to save my ass.

It is late, and know I should just pass it over like I always do, but when 3 out of 5 posts on this board are religion, it makes me wonder how long before we just change the name of the board. Maybe then the rest of us could just IM each other, and not give them our screen names. Now I am the one wasting bandwidth.

Good night.

If you want to know how important "you" are to God and your choice to have fellowship with Him through Christ--the bible says all the angels rejoice when one sinner is saved (becomes a Christian). So, conversely, imagine how it grieves the heart of God for someone to reject Him. Yet he is holy and just. He can't make exceptions if YOU CHOOSE to reject His Grace. So, the consequence is that you cannot live in HIS presence because you are not covered by His Son's sacrifice. What an amazing time in which we live--to see so many prophecies fulfilled. Scary too, but, I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING HOME!! HAPPY SUNDAY.

-- tt (cuddluppy@yahoo.com), September 19, 1999.

Despite protests to the contrary (s), the church can now understand most of Revelation and it appears that Jesus will probably return to Earth before the year 2007. Now before anyone assumes that statement to be heretical, please look at the following quote:

". . . and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till ALL THINGS are fulfilled" (Luke 21:24 and32).

Jerusalem was no longer under Gentile control as of June 6th, 1967 (that ended "the time of the Gentiles), and a Jewish generation is generally understood to be 40 years. So to find when to the end of all things might be requires a simple addition that any child can do: AD1967 + 40 = AD2007.

So "all things," which certainly includes the return of Jesus, will probably take place on or before the year AD2007. But even before that momentous event, two other prophecies in Revelation have to be fulfilled:

(1) Babylon must fall. (2) the Battle of Armageddon must be fought.

Late eschatological studies indicate that Babylon of Rev 18 is the total socioeconomic system of the unsaved world. For years I've wondered what could cause the collapse of this world's system in the figurative space of just "one hour," (two literal weeks as we count time). The total collapse of our infrastructure in that short a time seemed most unlikely to me.

Then right before our eyes, along comes Y2k, a minor little computer glitch that could do just that! Y2k may trigger Revelation 18's fall of Babylon - the collapse of the world's total socioeconomic system.

In the light of what we can now understand about Bible prophecy, the doomers may be right this time, because the fall of Babylon is one of the last events that has to take place before the return of Jesus. According to the Bible, it's not an Antichrist's conquest that's going to happen next, but a worldwide economic disaster:

Rev 18:11-13 "And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men."

With Armageddon concurrent or soon to follow. Some are saying we'd better head for the hills. It appears that the prophet Zechariah (14:13) predicts total anarchy just before the end. Isn't anarchy the most likely fruit of the moral degeneracy and barbarism into which our country is sinking? Well if so, finding a good fox-hole suggests no more than Scripture does:

Isa 26:20-27:1 "Come, my people, enter thou into thy rooms, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent (i.e., Satan), even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

To me that passage sounds like preparedness and low-profile while God judges the enemy and his servants. Though my views of the end-time may change as Revelation opens, that's my understanding at the present time.

Peace be unto you all. [s]

Eschatology is such fun.

-- Sam (Gamgee@new~row.org), September 19, 1999.

Reading the above brought to mind the Sunday London Times article on setting up a huge morgue in a sports stadium for New Year's eve... something about a "river of fire". Giant morgue prepared for New Year disasters

..."for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived"

I've heard it said that the "Babylon" refers to NYC - but at least in the passage above - and taking into consideration the control England still has on financial affairs - sounds more like London to me.

-- Linda (lwmb@psln.com), September 20, 1999.

Maggie;

That is the dispensational position, sure enough, but findings in eschatology since 1967 show their conclusions to be incorrect.

The temple will NOT be rebuilt before the end. The verses used to support the dispensational position were fulfilled in 1948 and 1967 in the new nation of Israel! If you would like some documentation, read: "Sozo, Survival Guide for a Remnant Church." Amazon.com carries it.
