Camera lens and film speeds

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Where can I find the lens "f" stop range, shutter speeds and sensitivity of the image sensors (ASA equivalent) so that I know the capability to take photos in low light conditions or where there is a need for high shutter speeds. I have an Olympus 400Zoom and am very pleased with the c500 photos I've taken.

go to http://photo.askey.net and click on "side by side". Select the cameras you want to check the specs for. They list the things you want, like lens aperture range, ISO rating, max/min shutter speed.

Where multiple ISO's are listed, like 100/200/400, you'll get better lowlight image at the higher ISO, but you get increasingly more CCD noise as ISO is raised.

A "hot shoe" is nice to add an external flash, makes a big difference for low light shots.
