Just visited the Ajax.nl english section.DAMN! it is really starting to look like something ! Kudos to Ajax.

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2002

Hey guys, let's take this conversation over to the Ajax USA Website topic page...

-- Anonymous, December 04, 2002

Rudy, I have asked Jim how much we are talking about here as it could be that donations from the hardcore could just be like p*****g in the atlantic ocean. Lets face it, it will be the hardcore of "Friends" that will make a contribution and not say the I love Zlado fanclubs (Jacob is an exception here).

-- Anonymous, December 04, 2002

Totally agree Bill.

I just tried to make an on line contribution, but the "PayPal" registration page needs a US address. Sending an international money order is a pain (and will reduce contributions). I've asked Jim if there's a way to set up international on-line contributions...let's face it, there must be about as many non US as US readers/posters on this site.

Cheers,

Cannot find anywhere else to post this, so ......

This website cannot be allowed to fade away as it has a soul, great editorial content and a great bunch of people running and posting to it.

The alternative Soccerpages is just like the rest - total impersonal and populated by, at times, a bunch of real w*****s.

Of course we havent all agreed, especially with regard to Zlado twins, but that is what its all about - good knowledgeable discussion. However, on Soccerpages you have the likes of a PSV poster saying that Chivu should have stopped Crespo scoring the 2 goals for Inter at the ArenA - for christ sake Chivu was suspended for that game. If that is the level of discussion on that web-site, I for one will not get involved.

So lads and lasses, lets rally around Jim and keep this wonderful web- site on the road.

Great site, this... It's called VoetbalFocus.nl and it0s a hige database of soccer statistics and facts. Unfortunately it's in Dutch, and I suppose it's very hard for you guys to find your way to every section, but the best part is easy to find.

Just look at the blue bar at the top of the page and click SPELERS- CV'S. This takes you to the index of an amazing number of player passports. You can also click one of the alphabet letters in the blue bar to get that letter only.

It's not completely up-to-date, but this page is very useful if you want to know for which clubs a player played in the past (before, say, 2001), how many goals he scored there etcetera. Great page. You should bookmark it. An impressive collection of player facts.

Ajax Mania is no more, but long-time Ajax Maniac and administrator of the Ajax Listserv, Thierry de Boer, has launched a new discussion forum, where the hardcore of former Ajax Maniacs can continue to get together. It also has an English section, which is still pretty dead. I suppose you guys are the one to change that. Register now!

This link take you to the index page

This link, more specifically, takes you to the English Zone

See you there. My nickname on all Ajax forums (including Ajax Netwerk, Vak 410 and these new Ajax Chatzones is Kowalczyk, (after the singer of a rockband from Pennsylvania named Live. Are they my favourite band? Not really, no. In fact, their latest album and tour were abvsolutely crap. But when I first registered at Ajax Mania, they had this great album named The Distance To Here. I thought it was a cool, kind of mysterious name, Kowalczyk, so I used it as my nickname. And never changed it since. Everyone now knows me as Kowalczyk, or, simply, Ko.

Answer to Menno about the new Ajax Website :

I can't understand why Ajax is not able to have an english version of his website. A big team like Ajax could and must have one... Like there are only two (good) english website about ajax, it's hard to have all the news of ajax.nl and have more details about the players, young teams... I consider Ajax have not much respect for foreign fans !

Came across this very pleasant and informative web-site on Dutch football :

Enjoy.

Check out the completely re-designed Ajax.nl.

They finally listened to our advise: 'no English version at all is better than a bad English version'. As far as I can see they now have no English version at all... :-)

What do you guys think?

Nice one...

The so-called 'G 14' clubs of Europe (a platform in which fourteen European top clubs our united to make discussion with the UEFA easier) have launched their official website: G14clubs.com

This is the index page. Of course, Ajax is one of the 'G 14'. We have our own little page right HERE.

There's a few mistakes on the page, by the way. For starters, they forgot Ajax' European Cup Winners Cup (1987), two European Supercups (1972 and 1995) and World Cups (1972 and 1995). Also, Michael van Praag has been the chairman of the board since 1989 and a director of the AFC Ajax NV since the listing on the stock exchange in 1998 - and not the other way round.

Anyway - nice little piece of Ajax promotion. Makes you feel proud.

In response to Rich's question:

The reason why the URL 'kpn-telecompetitie.nl' is no longer in use is simply because the highest Dutch league is no longer called KPN Telecompetitie. At the beginning of the 2000-2001 season, it was decided to give the league its original name back: the Eredivisie. Since KPN Telecom is still the sponsor (but they will quit the sponsoring after the current season) the official name of the league is now KPN Eredivisie.

I tried the URL 'kpn-eredivisie.nl' and it works. It takes you to the homepage of the website of Voetbal International, Holland's main soccer weekly. The name of their website is VI Planet.

At the left top of the homepage, you can click on the league you're looking for, including the KPN Eredivisie, the Gouden Gids Divisie (First Division), many other European leagues, but also the Amstel Cup and the Dutch national team. Each club has a page of its own, with links to articles (Dutch only, I'm afraid) and statistics for each player. Here's the most important one, the Ajax page.

Excellent website, I think.

-- Anonymous, November 21, 2001

Last week I spoke about a very (Excellent to be honest, and very detailed) good Dutch website that I could no longer get on as it has changed evidently. I had the site bookmarked as: voetbol international planet http://www.kpn-telecompetitie.nl//

Could someone from Holland, perhaps Menno give me some help with this issue?

Thanks,

Rich

An excellent site for discussion with fans from all over the world - www.footballforums.net

-- Anonymous, November 10, 2001

A short lesson in (recent) history...

For many years, Ajax fans have been complaining that there is no atmosphere in the ArenA. Okay: the F-Side (first ring behind the South goal) made noise, but the rest of the stadium kept obtaining 90 minutes of silence during Ajax home games, for some reason.

Meanwhile, loads of young, enthusiastic Ajax fans tried to get hold of a season card for the F-Side section. In vain, because the F-Side is sold out by season card holders.

While many others simply kept complaining, this group of real Ajax fans decided to actually do something. They set up talks with Ajax, in order to reserve a section of the ArenA where fanatical supporters willing to sing during games, could hook up. Section 410 (north curve, second ring) was allocated to them - and I have been impressed by what they've set up ever since.

A section full of yelling, singing Ajax fans, jumping up and down. And everyone seems to be wearing the Ajax home shirt. They called themselves the 'Ajax Ultras' initially; now they're simply referred to as Section 410. It looks great and there is now a noisy section on both ends of the ArenA.

Kudos to Arthur, Sjoerd and many, many others for their hard work. We, in the F-Side section, drowned in their noise a few times this season.

Check out the SECTION 410 website. There's nice pictures there. Also, their brand new discussion forum has an English Zone, which no-one seems to have found yet, but definitely deserves your support (especially now the Ajax Mania forum is closed down, for complex reasons I will not bore you with...).

Drop by, register and say 'hi' :-) My nickname there is Kowalczyk, which used to be my nickname on Ajax Mania as well. I wanted to keep my identity a secret at first, but hell, WHY?? ;-)

MatchSeats.Com is a soccer fan site for tickets, collectables, and soccer gear. We provide an especially good service for individuals who would like to see Ajax home games. When you purchase the tickets with MatchSeats, they will be waiting for you at the stadium to be picked up either before or on the day of the game. We also will have signed jerseys from the players at Ajax, just drop us an email, and we can probably get what you need.

Yes! One more new Ajax website will be launched on August 1, 2001. And it's a very special one. It's called "De Goeie Ouwe Tijd", which means The Good Old Days. Starting on August 01, the site will take you exactly 25 years back in time. In August of 2001, it will be completely dedicated to August of 1976, featuring pretty much everything that happened to Ajax back then.

A really, really nice idea, if you ask me, but there's one question I asked myself: why 25 years?? If they would have chosen for a 35 year flashback, they would have started in 1966 (the 'Fog Game' against Liverpool!), building up towards the Golden Era of 1971-1973. By taking us 25 years back in time, they start their time travel pretty much at the beginning of a really mediocre era (referred to as The Dark Years in our own Ajax history) that will continue for some ten years...

I was discussing this with Bastiaan and he came up with an interesting suggestion: maybe the webmaster is one of those guys (a little bit like ourselves) who gets sick and tired of Ajax fans whining that everything was better in the old days. Maybe this webmaster wants to show them that it really wasn't and that seasons like we've been having them recently, have always been part of the deal... If *that's* the idea behind this website, I like it even better.

Anyways: visit De Goeie Ouwe Tijd on August 1. The announcement sounds promising.

Somehow, somebody has found a way to re-offer 100 goals from the FootOfGod website that FIFA (F***ing Incompetent Football Association) shut down earlier this year. This new site has video footage of numerous Ajax heroes including Cruijff, van Basten, Bergkamp and Johnny Rep. The files are big and beautiful, so don't spare the bandwidth. You will need a variety of media players too, as the files are in various formats (avi, realmedia, etc.)

I coach an Under 15 boys soccer team, Ajax SC 85 (what else), based out of Kansas City, MO. We are wanting to travel to Amsterdam in the summer of 2003 when the team is U-18 to play in a tournament and some friendly's. Does anyone in the Ajax USA family have contacts oversea's? I have sent an e-mail to the Ajax club in Amsterdam but have not received any kind of response at the time of this writing. We, as a team, would be willing to host a team (lodging & food) from an Amsterdam club in return for hosting us when we travelled there. Thanks for any information you can pass my way regarding this.

Another new Ajax website: Ajax and new jersey sponsor Adidas have opened their new website 'Altijd Ajacied' ('Forever Ajacied'). It looks like a not too interesting Adidas advertising page, with a lot of talk about the new shirts - and pictures of Dutch Ajax fans, expressing their love for Ajax with predictable one-liners. By the way: Adidas does not answer the question that a lot of Ajax fans have: "Why didn't Adidas skip their three traditional sleeve-stripes for one time?". Another weakness of the site (Ajax keeps ignoring their international fans): it's in Dutch only... Well - just take a look and see for yourself: http://www.altijdajacied.nl/

Found another very cool website. This one's about one of the things that makes our beloved club so special compared to a lot of others: our youth system!! This site is completely dedicated to Ajax talents: find out which talents are on their way to the first team, find out which talents have left Ajax already, but might return home one day.

Unfortunately this site is Dutch only, but it's got a lot of good pictures too. Besides, the themes of a lot of the sub-pages are often easy to understand. so take a look:

Alex from Ajax-Germany has now added a link to Ajax-USA on his site, which is great. One of the other links on AjaxAmsterdam.de is a pretty weird one: http://www.meisje.de/ is a site by a German girl named Meisje, fully dedicated to Ajax and the Dutch national team ('Oranje'). Apparently, this girl has got a fascinating Holland fetish...

I wonder: would she know that Meisje is the Dutch word for 'girl'? By the way: the German word for girl is 'Mddchen' (just to show my American friends that Dutch and German are in fact different ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 14, 2000

Probably right, Rudy, let's forget about it. Let's talk about something nicer: even in these sad times, people from all over the world are interested in Ajax. Ajax has now got its own GERMAN fansite, which is pretty fucking cool. I mean: there are quite a lot of good football teams to choose from in Germany. This guy ALEX chose for Ajax. Wishing him good luck with his site, here's the URL: http://www.AjaxAmsterdam.de/ Just drop by and sign his guestbook...

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2000

Drop it Menno. It's not worth the effort. You can't win with people who have this this mentality.

-- Anonymous, January 28, 2000

It's too simple to put it that way, Sjaakie. Of course, everyone should do whatever he or she feels like. I'm not judging on that at all, as long as everybody sticks to the law. Violence and vandalism are definitely NOT okay, becuase it harms innocent people. Besides: because of the hooliganism, a lot of elderly people and parents with young kids don't go to the stadiums anymore. For a guy like you it's very easy to say that everybody should feel free to do what he wants to do. Obviously, because of hooliganism a lot of people do not feel free anymore. However, I appreciate the hooligans' initiative to arrange a fight next to a highway, in the middle of nowhere. Why don't we make that grassy area into an official hooligan arena? Let's put an iron fence around it and let 'em smash each other's brains in until there's no one left?

-- Anonymous, January 28, 2000

Menno, why not? You think the people behind this site aren't real Ajax-supporters? Guess again then, cause you guessed wrong. By the way, the www.f-side.nl page doesn't mind a good riot every now and then. But what I wanted to say was that you can be a real supporter with or without fighting, it's everybodies own choice to make. And about those fines...you don't really think Ajax needs that pocketchange do you? I mean, you should be worried about the fl 16.000.000 they spent on kinkladze, the millions they invested in Ajax capetown and other third world clubs so we might get a good player from those guys every 20 years. Deleting the adress of the MH-site would be very sad, I respect your opinion, but deleting a subject? Back to '40-'45 menno? Nobody is the same and you can't judge people you don't know. Football and hooliganism (i agree sometimes it gets out of hand) go hand in hand uhh...let me rephrase that, they are inseperable, anywhere in the world... (hand in hand kameraden is a feyenoord song)

Real Ajax fans don't go to the Mokumhools site mentioned above. It's a hooligan site, with pictures of violence and hooliganism. The F- Side page is explicitly anti Feyenoord and contains heavy criticism towards the Ajax board and the silent majority of the supporters. But still, that one's okay, it's just fanatical. The Mokumhools one, however, should be deleted from this Forum right away. Those people have cost Ajax a lot of fines and some bans, too. They might regard your visit as 'support'.

http://www.AmsterdamArena.nl

What about this one? You'll find everything about our inpressive stadium here. Not only about Ajax games, but about Holland games, American football bij the Amsterdam Admirals and ArenA pop concerts. Nice pictures, too. It's an official site, which means there is a total lack of criticism. The ArenA is heavily criticized by Ajax fans. The miss the traditional atmosphere of the previuous, old, small stadium De Meer, where Ajax used to have the noisiest fans of the country... The ArenA guys wouldn't mention that. Find out yourself.
