LCD screen disappears on my Mavica in very bright sunlight.

Sony makes an accessary called an Oscilloscope Hood. Is this used to block out some of the light so the image can be seen on the LCD screen? Can someone please explain what this is for? It is very frustrating to have to guess where I'm pointing the camera then view the picture and see that I have cut something out then delete the picture and have to try again.

As far as I know, the term 'oscilloscope hood' has always referred to a conical or pyramid shaped device positioned between a camera lens and the tube or display of a 'scope in order to block reflections & room lighting when trying to take a picture of the 'scope's display. It sounds like what you're looking for would be an LCD Sunshade...

Try: http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html and click on the SUNSHADES category. From what you'll find there, you can either buy one, or rig up one of your own with a bit of scrap cardboard or plastic and some tiny velcro strips available from Radio Shack, if memory serves.

Good Luck.

Cindy,

Ask your question on the Mavica Information Exchange forum. I've seen references there to LCD hoods. That foruum is dedicated to Mavica owners so that is the place to go for Mavica info.

Cindy; Which Sony Mavica do you have? I own a FD-91 and I do not have any of these problems, I have also used the FD-81 without problems. I assume, you are using the "non-Backlit" type LCD, since the FD-91 & FD-81 are both backlit LCD and they work great in the sun.
