Take digital picture of slides. Help

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Is it possible to get a crisp image of a projected slide by taking a picture of it with an Olympus 340R? I need to print slide images FAST without having to wait days for photo CD processing, for use as painting reference; so I need detail to be clear. Anyone ever use a Sima "Family Album Copy Kit", which is just a small, fold-up rear projection screen, with the image projected from slide projector onto a mirror then to screen?

Might work - I shot some pictures off a movie screen (not recommended for copyright legalities!) recently with a Fuji MX-1700, and they came out surprisingly good. With enough light, should work fine. Don't know how the close-up rear projection thing would work. One note though: Be sure your camera is *absolutely square* with the screen, or you'll get bad "keystoning", as the 340's lens is fairly wide-angle. A trick another reader shared with me: Stick a small mirror on the surface you're trying to copy from. When the image of the camera's lens is exactly centered in the mirror, and the mirror in the exact center of the camera's field of view, everything will be square! Good luck!
