Do magazines accept digital images?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am a writer who used to do my own photography and am planning to take it up again. I need a new camera and am weighing whether to buy a 35mm set up, or a high-quality digital camera. I want to go digital but not if images made with digital cameras are not widely accepted for publication. Adv

I have used the Digital Photo for the magazine and newspaper. I have to admit, I am not a frequent user of that sort, but I have done it, and worked very well. I used the Sony FD-91 to take the images on a standard 3.5" Floppy. I just provided the images on the floppy from Digital Camera, and the result was very nice. Good Luck.

The answer to your question is a firm "yes" with an equally firm "no." I've sold digital photos along with articles, but that doesn't mean all magazines will accept them. A lot of magazines prefer slides above all else. It would appear that photography is well on its way to going digital, but it's not quite there yet. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide which way you want to go. If it's digital, expect to spend a good amount of money in order to be happy with the quality. Do extensive research, starting here at Imaging Resource. This site won't give you the answers; it will, however, help you find your own.
