Tuesday run report (Sept. 7)

Mary, Dan, Dick and I were at tonight's informal training at Shawnee Mission Park.

The news from tonight's run was the weather. Just south of the park there was lightning, heavy rain and hail. But, the park itself stayed dry (except for some brief sprinkles).

When we arrived at the park there was some discussion about calling the training off and just going out for dinner. I was leaning toward calling it off (I'm not fond of playing Russian Roulette with lightning). But, as we watched the storm it looked like it would just miss the park. Reasoning that we could always cut the run short and go straight back to the car, we decided to run.

Running turned out to be a good idea. The weather was fine. In fact, the storm dropped the temperature and it was really nice for running.

We did not do any "test" runs. But, Dan and I ran the test loop by doing intervals of 2 mintues hard followed by one minute easy. Dan covered the entire loop in about 17. I took about 17:30. Dick ran a steady pace (no intervals) and ran just under 18.

After the run we grabbed a bite to eat at Wendy's.
