Telephone

This is for Larry or Gary.

I have an old telephone that has been updated for use in today's jacks. The phone came from the Chessie System. It is a cradle phone with wooden box. There is a hand crank that still works and makes the bell work. It has a rotary dial with the Chessie kitten in the center. Is the ACLSCL Historical Society interested?

Hello Vern - Thanks very much for thinking of us, and the short answer is always YES, we are interested in any railroad artifacts for our archives or for the planned display we will help put up at the restored Rocky Mount station. This telephone might well be good for that purpose. Even though it didn't actually come from one of "our" railroads, it still is representative of the equipment used by all railroads and could be an interesting part of the station display. We are just beginning to build our collection and can use any items like this. Remember too that all donations to us are tax-deductible.

Thanks again, and to follow up, please feel free to e mail me directly.
