FAA/Y2K House Hearing on 9/9- A call for info!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hello,

This is the reseacher@network.news calling again.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, been quite busy on non-y2k stuff:( Anyway, as the title of this thread indicates, there is a FAA/Y2K hearing on 9/9/99. Anyway - I am onto some interesting leads about the the real state of the FAA's readiness. They said they were 100% compliant on July 21st. However, as we all know, it's never that simple. I have some interesting evidence already and some on the record statements. I would like to present my bosses and the correspondent an air tight case on how and why we should do this story. I don't think I have that yet and need your help.

This is a call out to to anyone who either has first hand knowledge of the FAA's status (like a programmer) or anyone else who would just like to add their point of view.

If you don't want to post here, you can communicate with me on my private e-mail (tao8@earthlink.com). That's my home e-address and should be safe.

Your help is much appreciated - Thanks in advance! -Researcher

P.S. ->If you help me and the spot airs - then you'll all know where I work and that I am in fact real:)

Just wondering out loud, of course,

I wonder of what significance, if any, is the new

Howdy Researcher,

We had these threads a few days ago, asking why, if the FAA is 100% done everywhere, is Primeon still doing "certification?":

Hey, didn't the FAA claim Y2K Compliance in July? How many lies can they tell?

FAA and Primeon: Doombrood Drumbeat Goes On...

Myself, I think it's a miracle. I know I'll hear it for bringing up this "old" news again, but this is from the March 15 statement by Inspector General Mead, before the House committee:

Mead, Kenneth - Hearing Testimony

"FAA is facing a unique implementation challenge. The ATC system fixes, after being operated in test-center environments, have to be installed at multiple sites throughout the system. ... Implementing repairs into the real operational environment has risk due to potential complications resulting from local adaptations to ATC systems (changes made by local technicians). In the past, FAA has encountered problems installing test-center solutions at locations throughout the ATC system due to local changes.

FAA has 21 of the 65 ATC systems that have been fixed, tested, and installed at field sites. The remaining 44 systems are the most complex, and have to be installed at about 3,000 field sites in the next 3 months. This very aggressive schedule has to be carried out in conjunction with the development of other major ATC modernization projects, such as the Host replacement system."

Tick... Tock.. <:00=

Hi -

The spot on the FAA hearing will not air. They killed the story in the afternoon meeting. I am probably going to write something for the website now instead. Although, I am losing my will to get this stuff on our broadcast. So much work - never used. When I presented my research (quotes, IV&Vs, GAO report, etc) to the correspondent he said, "Whatever, the FAA is ready. They said so months ago."

ugh - maybe I can't change the system from within.

Wouldn't life be grand if they all said they were ready and we could all be certain they were all telling the truth.

Sorry to hear about all of your wasted work. It must be really frustrating.

You may not be able to change the system, but you will always know you tried. You did what you thought was right. I thank you for trying.
