Hardliner:

First, Sir, I offer my heartfelt thanks to you for your carreer of service to our Country. Your Code of Honor is evident in your writing, and still means alot to some of us.

Second, Sir, I thank you for your recent postings to the "Good News and Bad News" thread. I know why you shed your Lurker's cloak of invisibility; the thoughts and words of that ignorant ground pounder are a topic that has had some of us seriously worried.

Which brings me to the subject of my question for you:

Some of us at this forum are concerned about some of the Military Options Other Than War (MOOTW) which might be excercised in response to Y2K disruptions. If you have been searching the internet, as your address suggests, you are probably very familiar with the range of these scenarios (perhaps you have even gamed some of the scenarios yourself).

Most of these concerns are rooted in the fear of the suspension of the Constitution by the Federal Government in response to social strife/civil unrest. As you are aware, there is a strong undercurrent of mistrust for the current administration (and the elites in general), especially around this forum, but also all across this Country, perhaps extending even into your own organization. Much of the historical data suggest that our concerns are legitimate, and that we cannot trust the current regeim to make the "right" decisions, when faced with complex choices.

Seldom are we here treated to a .mil perspective (much less a thoughtful and reasoned analysis). Could you addrress these issues? What is your perspective on the overall situation? Care to take a dip in the prognosticatory pool?

Your maximum level of candor would be greatly appreciated. Your cloak of annonimity (thin though it may be) remains intact.

Fire at will.

Godspeed,
