Nikon 950 with DigiPower Pak

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I will be purchasing a Nikon Coolpix 950 shortly primarily due to its excellent macro capabilities. However, I have a question regarding the DigiPower Pak offered by Ritz Camera (www.ritzcamera.com). The salesperson advised me that this was the better route to go instead of purchasing the NiMH batteries/charger. Also said I could forgo an AC Adapter becuase it was included in the DigiPower Pak.

Presumably the DigiPower Pak is portable and provides approximately 4 times the battery life of the NiMH batteries. You would also need to purchase a cable for $9.95.

Anyone have experience with these and could comment on the validity of the above?

If not true, any recommendations on brands for the AC Adapter and the NiMH batteries/charger?

I am also looking into purchasing a San Imagemate and the San Image Compact Flash cards.

Thanks in advance....

I have the 950. I bought the AC power unit when I first bought the camera (Both from Ritz). Today I purchased the DigiPower Pak as a backup for taking pictures - when not near an AC outlet - but not needing the mobility of using the NIMH battery (Radio Shack). I could see some situations where the Cord comming accross the top of the camera could get in the way in very active use of the camera. Since the battery pak -- does have a life span to it -- I do not think I would be using it as a source for power like I would the AC adapter.

I do enjoy the service from Ritz and the quality of all the products.
