Depreciated Value of Vehiclegreenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread |
Where is it set down (which RCW) how the DOL calculates the depreciated value of the vehicle? Or is it left to their discretion? I'm paying $500 for a four year old Saab worth $15k but $400 for a brand new $20k Subaru. What's wrong with this picture?I don't mind paying the taxes. I just think their flat depreciation schedule is unfair. It would be better if it was keyed off the NADA or KBB market value like it is in Virginia.

Gee, I'm paying $9.00 per year on my 1974 Datsun 240Z sports car, that is worth one heck of a lot more than the state taxes it at. This is not a complaint. The tax is correctly percieved to be unfair and outrageous and will be repealed by the voters in November 1999.

I had a 1974 Datson 240Z once. If yours gives you as much trouble as mine gave me, you're being overcharged. ;

I also have a 1967 Cortina GT that I pay $44 a year on. I think the actual value of the car is $500 or so.Glenn

The depreciation schedule can be found in RCW 82.44.041.It is based upon the MSRP of the base model vehicle (no options).
