and anybody else who might be interested: on FactFinder's thread of August 29th entitled "Y2K Problems Severe Enough to Cause Plant Shutdown" I have two rather lengthy posts (the second is in specific response to your post, Malcolm) that raise assorted questions and issues of possible importance; reasoned responses to these issues might interest many laypersons visiting this forum, including yours truly. I realize that the ABB report was raised in this forum some time ago, but I did not think it ever got quite the detailed discussion it deserved (or if it did, I missed it!). Also, I continue to hope for more insight into why Cameron Daley of TAVA made the published remarks he did.

Thanks in advance for any responses received.

Don, You are right, you deserve a response for some excellent questions. I am short on time, but will try to address what I can in the next few days, and hope others do as well.

Don, I also think the ABB report did not engender the discussion it deserved, nor do I think ABB's expertise was treated by some with the respect I believe it has earned. Then again, everyone has different opinions. However, I do know someone who is consulting for a large international manufacturing company which has dealt with ABB for a long time. When this consultant gave their IT manager a copy of Dr. Kegaller's paper (they had not known about it) as soon as they saw it came from ABB it was accorded the greatest of respect and accepted without reservation. Such was their level of confidence based on many years of consistent interactions with ABB.

For those that missed it, the original May 15, 1999 thread on Dr. Kegaller's ABB paper is at:

Thanks, FactFinder and Bonnie, for your posts above.

Malcolm, if you visit this thread: I just read your very thoughtful and informative posts replying to my posts on FactFinder's original thread. Thanks very much. I have posted a response on that thread.
