Sunoco's Ohio plant back to full rates by weekend

NEW YORK, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Sunoco MidAmerica (NYSE:SUN - news) said on Monday it planned to restart its fire-damaged 70,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) crude units at Toledo, Ohio by the end of the week.

``Damage to the unit was not extensive, and we expect the crude unit to be in operation by the end of the week,'' said refinery operations manager Jerry Lockie in a statement.

``In addition, operations will return to full rates after that with the restart of the vacuum tower,'' he added.

Runs at the 140,000 bpd plant had been halved after a fire on August 28 broke out due to a crack in a line carrying heavy residual oil, the company said.

There were no injuries, it said. Sunoco MidAmerica Marketing and Refining, which has nearly 1,000 locations throughout Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia, said it is taking measures to minimize impact and to meet its supply agreements.

It is a unit of Sunoco Inc., headquartered in Philadelphia, and one of the largest independent petroleum refiner-marketers in the United States with five refineries with approximately 730,000 bpd of crude oil processing capacity.

Thankfully it wasn't serious, but 'The Keep of the Explosions' should add it to the list.
