Toxic material used in water treatment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Just heard on local news: there was a toxic materials spill (leak of a railroad car)in Temple Texas...requiring evacuation of several nearby schools. In the report it was stated the material was 'acrylamine...a toxic, cancer-causing powder used in water treatment plants.'

Does anyone know in what manner this material is being used in those plants? Surely not for water treatment.

Flouride is EXTREMLY POISONOUS "Surely not for water treatment."

Acrylamine: Poly(aminoethylate-co-acrylate) a solvent. "Surely not for water treatment."

Don't know what it's used for in water treatment, but chemicals used to kill germs, can kill people too.

dw: yeah, I understand what you are saying about Floride; Chlorine also is toxic...and that's why I filtered my water or bought filtered water pre-y2k. That old saying, "What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger" doesn't apply here does it?

Do a look-up on "flouride poisoning" in Altavista or yahoo.

In a nutshell, flouride is originally a rat and pestulant poison.

The concentration of flouride made can not be disposed of except in toxic waste facilities. Dilution is the only "recourse". Many, many years ago during the age of disillusionment and basically unmonitored government activity (DDT era), a deal was struck with the flouride manufacturers to dispose of flouride diluted in water treatment facilities.

Absolutely no medical or scientific reports of actual substance or credibility was produced to substantiate the claim of dental benefits now so well propagandized into our entire society.

Under government contract, they facilitated the manufacturers. The so- called dental flouride program was a hoax and a cover-up so that large chemical manufacturers could avoid paying excruciatingly high toxic waste disposal transportation and fees. There was also some type of kick-back arrangement to the government, but I fail to remember the details in short. I'll post it later.

Thousands of dentists and scientists are now fighting to have the flouride fallacy discontinued at this very moment. You'll find thousands of pages of documentations, reports, scientific data, and lawsuits pending concerning this very matter. If it weren't 1:43 am, I'd link some stuff. If I have time tomorrow, I'll come back to this thread and do it. In the meantime, do some simple searches on flouride poisoning and you'll get plenty to research. karen

I just couldn't let this go tonight - so here is one very important lead in article to do more research on this topic (one of my soapbox topics - personally).

If you have kids that are participating in the school flouride rinse programs - STOP THEM WITH A LETTER TO THE SCHOOL! At least protect your own kids and tell the administration why. Our reports were forwarded and now under review by the state school board. It takes a while to get their attention. We started almost a year ago. So, here goes:

Is Flouride a Danger to Your Health and Sanity? by Linda Page, N.D., Ph.D.

Take a deep breath because what I am about to tell you is going to be a shock. Fluoride is an unnecessary, toxic poison added to your food and water supply. No other substance deliberately added to food or water poses the health risks of fluoride.

Under the guise of health benefits, fluoride is now present in most commercial toothpastes and is regularly added to over 60% of our public drinking water. As a health professional and human being, I am outraged by the practice of mandatory water fluoridation and the addition of fluoride to toothpastes used regularly by children and adults.

A new study shows fluoride increases absorption of aluminum from deodorants, or pots and pans by over 600%! The aluminum concentration in the brains of Alzheimer's patients is 15 times higher than in healthy individuals. The fluoride/aluminum combination spells disaster for your brain's health!

That's not the only problem with fluoride. We've been told how good it is for us, but I'd like to dispel some of the myths about fluoride. Fiction: Fluoride is a natural substance.

Fact: Fluoride occurs naturally in some water supplies as natural calcium fluoride, but the type of fluoride added to water and toothpastes is a hazardous waste by-product (hydrofluosilicic acid) coming from the phosphate fertilizer industries.

Fiction: Fluoride reduces tooth decay.

Fact: A recent analysis of national survey data collected by the National Institute of Dental Research shows that children who live in areas of the U.S. where the water supplies are fluoridated have tooth decay rates almost identical with those who live in non-fluoridated areas. Further, recent large-scale studies show no difference in decay rates of permanent teeth in fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas.

Fiction: Mandatory water fluoridation is safe.

Fact: An enormous body of evidence from both animal and human epidemiology studies is now clear. Fluoride exposure is linked to cancer, genetic damage, nervous system dysfunction, and bone diseases. Studies also link fluoride exposure to lowered IQ in children.

More Fluoride Facts:

Fluoride is more toxic than lead. Even in minute doses, it is damaging to brain/mind development.

Studies show that fluoride is linked to Alzheimer's and Senile Dementia.

In areas where fluorosis (fluoride poisoning) is prevalent, a higher concentration of fluoride is found in the developing brain tissue of unborn children.

Hip fracture rates are much higher in people residing in fluoridated communities.

Postmenopausal women, people 50 and over, people with nutrient deficiencies and people with cardiovascular and kidney problems are especially affected by fluoride exposure.

The U.S. National Research Council admits that dental fluorosis affects from 8% to 51% of the children drinking fluoridated water.

Is Fluoride Toothpaste Safe? The answer to this question is a resounding no. The poison control center receives over 11,000 calls a year because of poisoning from ingesting fluoride toothpaste. In 1997, the FDA even mandated a poison warning label on fluoride toothpaste! Small children, who tend to swallow toothpaste, are most at risk. Signs of fluoride poisoning include vomiting and muscle cramps. Look for non-fluoridated toothpastes like Natures Gate Spearmint or Cinnamon Toothpaste at your health food store.

As we near the millennium our country is in a grave situation. The widespread use of fluoride in our dental products, food, and beverages is causing massive fluoride poisoning in the U.S. population. Plus, the fluoridated water affects our food supply. Fruits and vegetables watered with fluoridated water mean toxic fluoride is leeched into the produce you eat. Not even organic produce is safe from fluoride in the water supply.

People throughout the United States need to work hard to stop mandatory water fluoridation before its too late. If you want to help stop mandatory water fluoridation, contact:

Yet ANOTHER govt. cover-up

-- karen (karen@karen.karen), August 31, 1999.

Thanks Karen...lots of great links.

When I was a kid our city used artesian well water. At about age 14, the city began to get half of their water from Ft.Worth which had begun to add flouride (this was around 1960 I think). I remember having rashes and stomach aches.

My mother was really upset about the whole thing. My dad was a chemist, and he was even more upset. We avoided flouridated toothpaste, and I still do to this day. There are a few who do not have it added, plus you can make your own toothpowders using herbs.

What type of filtration removes flouride from drinking water, eg, I have a Britta-activated charcoal filter? Thanks, Tim

-- Tim Johnson (timca@webtv.net), August 31, 1999.

The Berkley Water Filter "may" remove flourides - I am not sure, but it's worth checking out. I'll see if I can find out.... karen

I use well water - so ... no additives.
