film/slide adapter for flatbed scanner

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I read on UMAX web site, I believe, that UMAX makes an adapter for film and slide scanning for their flatbeds... I own an Agfa SnapScan 1212u and asked Agfa if they had something similar... they don't... does any one know of any type of film/slide adapter that would work with my scanner; would the UMAX one? Also what experiences out there with some of the film/slide only scanners... thanks, Elizabeth

I have a Umax 1200 that I bought a transparency adapter for (about $200). It will scan negatives and slides, but the quality and resolution leave something to be desired. Don't spend money on one of these if you're scanning 35mm, buy a dedicated film scanner instead. I purchased a Nikon LS-2000 (about $1500), and have been very pleased with it. I also have a friend with the Nikon LS-30 (about $800), very pleased with that model also. (He still uses mine for "tough" negatives). I've also heard good things about the Minolta and Canon film scanners ($500 and up).

I bought a Plustek OpticPro 9636T 3 months ago for #115 (UK) from Watford Electronics and I find that it does a very satisfactory job of scanning slides and negatives with its built in transparency unit.
