I want to buy a digital camera for Web photos

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hello,

I want to buy a digital camera only I don't know which resolution I should take => my purpose is to take pictures and publish them on the Web. Should I take the highest resolution of 1,5 megapixels or should I take less than that. The higher the resolution, the bigger the Jpg-file so the longer the download-time on the internet. I want the best of both worlds. What should I take ? (which technical features should the camera have to publish on the internet ?)

Geert,

You only need 640x480 res for screen use...but prints is another matter. Save your hard earned cash and buy a camera with middle of the road rez. Try something around 850k... you can get into a camera like this for 500 or less and it will be great for the web and still allow you to print 4x6's that look good.
