Australia hijackers make clean getaway with load of toilet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - Thieves made a clean getaway after stealing a truck packed with thousands of dollars worth of toilet paper, police said Monday. The silver truck was taken from a yard in southeast Melbourne, 460 miles southwest of Sydney, some time between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, a spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity.

The truck's load of toilet rolls was valued at $18,900.

No arrests were immediately reported.

FWIW, this may be a case in which the truck itself was the object of the thieves, rather than its contents. Nevertheless, this may go down in the books as the GREAT TP Robbery. :-)

A few years back when cigarette prices started to climb, a truck hauling cigarettes here in California was hijacked. They recovered the truck intact but the cigs were gone.

The first Y2K prep my wife insisted on buying was a HUGE quantity of TP. When I questioned whether there might some other items of higher priority, I was sternly told not to argue, that she was not facing life without this particular luxury.

However, I am relatively certain, that she was no where near Melbourne Australia, between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning...

Agreed Bonk

My house goes through 482 rolls of TP per week.

PS, Don't ask me why.

I have a rock-solid alibi - I was at work. But it's nice to know there's other doomers in my city.
