UMAX 1220P polarity

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'd like to make my (Canadian model) Umax 1220P compatible with European voltage. The Lytron adapter I'm using needs to have a polarity specified (+ or -). Unfortunately, there are no symbols on the scanner indicating which one would be correct.

Any ideas? thanks, Julia

The block transformer on my 1220P indicates 12 volts DC at 1 amp but doesn't show polarity. The center conductor of the cord is positive, the outer conductor is negative on the cord/plug as measured by voltmeter when plugged in. So the 12 volts positive from your adapter should be on the center conductor with the negative return on the outer conductor. I don't expect your model would be different but if you have access to someone with a voltmeter you might want to check to be sure. Check the fit/compatibility of the adapter plugs as well, there are several different common sizes and a visual check may not ensure a plug that actually works and stays connected. An intermittent connection during scanning will not be a good thing!
