Ocracoke-AP -- Evacuations are beginning on North Carolina's Ocracoke Island because of the threat from Hurricane Dennis.

Terry Gray of the Hatteras Island ferry office says evacuations began at 10 a.m. and are mandatory as of noon.

As of then, only residents with proper identification and supply vehicles carrying necessities will be allowed on the island.

Gray says ferries aren't running on a regular schedule but instead will run weather permitting.

As of eight a.m., the storm was located about 295 miles south of Wilmington with maxium sustained winds of 100 miles an hour. A tropical storm warning is up as far north as Surf City, and a hurricane watch extends to Cape Hatteras.

On the other hand, you may not want to be so easily tracked down as to leave a trail. This might be a good time to establish an alternative identity for this purpose. Isn't this perfectly legal, so long as it is done without intent to defraud? You could become one of those F. Scott Fitzgerald types, or Scott Fitz Gerald... to keep it alphabetically separate... then it would be just a clerical error that you didn't see fit to worry about.

It is reasonable to assume that we will need to travel...and that good documents may facilitate this travel. It is also reasonable to assume that you will not want to unduely come to the attention of the authorities (as you could with false documents). Therefore, I suggest keeping your id up to date...and legitimate!
