Are digital cameras a viable option for those wishing to shoot action sports photos for commercial purposes.....would be grateful if anyone could give me feedback. thankyou

Yes Dan, There are new products, targeting this kind of photography,whith excellent results. One of these coming soon is the Nikon D1 wich you can see at http://www.nikonusa.com/ I am not a Nikon maniac but I was working as a pro in sports using mainly Canon . Since the Nikon lences are inproved these days (thy are fast and accurate) you can go for the D1 at an affordable price and great sports features as the 1/16000 sec shutter speed 1/500 sec flash sync and many others. All thought I was a Canon lover when I was using film for sports I see that the Canon digital solutions are at the moment one step behind because of the big difference in price and features.As for image quality, I think that digital images can cover now the needs of newspapers and they came very close to the quality needed from the vaste majority of magazines, for small reproductions.
