Watch CNN Tonight

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Flipped on CNN at a little after 7 PST while my 9 year-old surfed the game zones...

Was only paying half-assed attention, then I began to notice the number of times Y2K was mentioned... wasn't taking notes, but I'm sure the transcript will be up in a couple of days...

Kind of a mixed message... let's see what I can remember...

The rate hike, Greenspun, history of the Fed... comment about the Fed "not wanting to rock the boat before Y2K"

A segment on an investor, a trader who also ownes a video rental store and invests the extra income.. pulling back and laying low till after January...

The ATM spin, pictures of stacks of $50 rolling off the line (ever get a 50 from an ATM?), ATM's in US are not expected to have problems, but about overseas? Hummm...

Then the banking "Sermon" mentioned, rapping up with the statement of greeting the New Year with hope and optimisim, etc, as opposed to "hunkered in the basement with guns and cash"

Spin is going into overtime, but there are a few discordent notes, played tonight on CNN... Look for the transcript in the next day or so, interesting... by the time I realized how many times I heard the word Y2K tonight, it was too late to hit record... sigh...

Preps done, plan B arranged, hoping to God plan C isn't needed, but if it is, it'll probably be to late for me anyway...

I am stunned by the number of times a day they say "Y2K" every day now on the CNBC stock market channel.

I sort of watch it for a couple hours a day on and off and they must bring it up every 20 minutes in every kind of conversation.

I heard several of the "anchors" saying things like "Its interesting how the government is not saying anything about Y2k potential problems and we hear it so much on Wall St.".

Just noticing stuff ......
