Lord's report is bad, but its still a best guess. Reality is probably worse...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

fact is, what was Lord's report based on? Best guesses. No realtime testing has been done on any of the mentioned gas/power/water systems. The reality is a lot worse. Time to wake up to it.

How is reality worse than Lord's report? Based on what factual, documented information? Gary North's website? Ha!

Go back to sleep.

don't want to flog reality to death, but hey, NO REALTIME TESTING = NO REALTIME TESTING = NO REALTIME TESTING = NO REALTIME TESTING. A rose by any other name, my friend. Show me ONE utility that has performed a realtime test, one bank, one telephone company. You CAN'T, because they won't. That is the fact, don't need Gary North to reinforce reality. That is the simple, awful truth about this whole problem. It can't be fixed, despite everyone's best efforts, because we're dealing with some serious dependencies, ie power. Noone will fool around with that. We are circling the problem, poking at it, but we're not fixing it. WE'RE NOT FIXING THIS THING. ITS A HOAX!!!!!!!!! NOTHING IS GETTING REMEDIATED!!!!!!!

Is that clear enough for you?

We are misguided? Thank you, wise shepard, for setting us right.

Another arrogant asshole - but here's his answer: is the Congressional General Accounting Office good enough for him, do you think? These yappy dogs will be nipping at our heels right up until New Years, I suspect...

Jest ticklin' the pollys.

Owl is right!!

One of the rationale's for finishing in September 1998 was to allow testing of power plants and Power Grids when the results of a brief blackout would be tolerable...New York City in November 1965 was trivial.

Testing the Grids now was ALWAYS out of the question. Again, NYC had a blackout in August 1997. Four out of five burroughs BURNED. Last winter was their LAST chance.

It is now September 1999. Time's up!!

Owl your rude and crude, maybe what this forum needs more of. Now if you were able to supply to this forum some more technical reasons why realtime testing cannot be done prior to rollover, I think more folks would be adding to there preps.

Les;

The phone companies and the power compaines have both said they cannot test real time due to the possibilty of failures. Go figure! Also it takes alot of work to roll a chip ahead and, Some chips cannot be rolled ahead.

owl,

Alliant Energy and USWEST confirmed that ALL tests are performed in a LAB and not LIVE. MCI makes me laugh. NO LIVE end to end testing being done.
