Gee - that's funny. He's complaining if a group of people he abjectly hates and despises decide to talk about various subjects in a separate forum that he (CPR and his cronies) rants and raves and complains about in his own little world....

Yeah, the "About" message says that this forum is for those concerned about... yadda, yadda, yadda...

However, this forum has also become a "community" of people, some of whom have made friends with each other. Yeah, there's a lot of OT stuff, but we want to know about some of the other things that concern folks. The sysops have always been very liberal in allowing OT stuff, going back to when Ed ran the show. There was a movement to try to limit some of that, and that caused more threads about "freedom of speech" and complaints than threads about Y2K.

A lot of the OT issues are directly related to Y2K, and you know it. You just want something to complain about. The sysops cut the forum a hell of a lot of slack. Why don't you do the same?

The reason it has gone so off topic is simple.

It is becoming increasingly more obvious that Y2K is a lot more likely to be BITR than TEOTWAWKI. Theres really not much there to discuss on Y2K, so its conspiracy theories, UN School Busses, insect plagues, Nuclear War with China, 'Whatever happened to Infomagic', etc.

There has not been a real big Y2K event yet, despite the predictions of Ed Yourdon and so many others. Not to say that there will not be some 'bumps in the road' after the rollover, but it will be far from the end of civilization or the world as we know it.

I still haven't seen an adequate response to the simple question, "Why are you here?" Why are you still interested in a subject that you claim to be totally irrelevant. You also seem pretty sure that those of us labeled as "doomers" are a bunch of ineffectual white trash. If we are wrong and entirely unable to affect the world outside of our "cult" it makes no sense for you to spend so much time here.

We have become their only reason for living, the object of their sick obsession. When they're not here shouting at us, they are at DeBonkers talking about us! They could no more be apart from us than John Hinkley could ignore Jodi Foster. We are all they have, and it's truly sad and pathetic, just like them.

This is close to what most professional engineers and programmers think of the doomer crowd and their leaders Gary North, Jim Lord, Ed Yourdon, Cory Hamasaki, et al.

The doomer point of view is displayed in the overwhelming majority of Y2K web-sites. This is the reason for the existence of the debunking crowd.
