Smartmedia cards

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Having moved all my digital images from the SmartMedia card to my pc, I then tried to save some of the images back onto the card. However the camera says 'card not initialized'. Can images be saved onto the SmartMedia card from the pc?

Yes you can save the images back up to the card. I have done it on my Olympus C2000Z. If you have manipulated the image in any way after download you probably can't upload because the formats may be slightly different and the Card can tell the image was not created by the camera.

I just read something about this yesterday. As the other poster said, as long as the image has not been modified, you should be able to put it back on the SM card.

I also recently read a tip (in Olympus discussion section of this Web site I think) that you can edit the image, but the size must be specified to be exactly the same as the regular camera image size (at least for an Olympus 340L). One pixel more or less will confuse the camera's custom file system.

Technically speaking the camera's ability to read files depends on the camera firmware. Therefore it is the camera, not the media (SmartMedia or otherwise), that determines if an edited or different size image file is recognized. -ZephanS
