Deodorant - What crystals?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I've read about using some kind of crystal as a deodorant, but can't seem to find it now. Is it alum? Where do you get whatever crystal it is?

Try colloidal silver as a deodorant, works for a long time. And a little goes a long way. If you make your own, it is also cheap...

You can find the crystals in most health food stores and some other major chains. My daughter has used one for years. You must remember that they are merely deodorants and if you perspire alot you will not be dry...but recently read a major study linking breast cancer to use of antiperspirants; food for thought.

A few years ago I started to use the deoderant crystal. A couple of months later both armpits were raw and bright red and hurt like hell! I stopped the crystal and it took about 3 weeks to clear up.

I used the crystal (also called deodorant stone) for about a year and loved it. I just read the article linking anti-perspirants to breast cancer and plan to go back to using the crystal when we use up our stock of regular deodorant/antiperspirant. One deodorant stone will last about a year. Good investment.

Don't know about the crystal deodorants, never used one. a cheap one I have made at home is baking soda and cornstarch mixture, about a 2:1 mixture. Works OK, usually have these ingredients on hand.

I agree with Barb. Except I mix scented dusting powder into baking soda. Works great, and I'm not spraying aluminum chlorhydrate into my lymph nodes where it builds up and does who knows what.

Thai deodorant stone, some sort of mineral. Available on a wooden handle at realgoods.com for about $7-8, or call distributor, Deodorant Stones of America, Scottsdale, AZ: 1-800-279-9318.

You can get them at Giant food stores or most health food stores. They take about 3 days to become effective - probably because they kill the bacteria. So give it a few days before you give up. I have heard of a few people that have developed rashes. I guess it's like anything else. Some bodies don't like it. It's the only thing I can use without getting a rash. Go figure! Much cheaper than the usual stuff. The only problem I've found is that some brands have difficulty staying attached to their mounting doo-hickey - a technical term. The water tends to wash it away. But it's woth the extra effort.

Most of those "natural" stones are nothing more than an aluminum salt. Aluminum is only one of four elements that are totally unusable in the human body, even arsenic aids nerve functions in very low doses. I can only remember the two of the others, berylium and cadmium.

Aluminum is a high toxic (that's why no stinky bacteria will grow in your armpit) highly reactive metal that promotes cross-linking in cells. I would never use anything that toxic when safe alternatives exist.

Sorry, forgot to snatch the URL but you can locate the site by plugging in "Thai Deodorant Stone" to Alta Vista or other search engine. Here's what it says.

Been selling these deodorant stones since the beginning of their entry into the market place - about 10 years now...

Basicly... The Deodorant Stone is the Most Effective body deodorant known to man. The stone is 100% Pure, and is completely free of all additives and harmful chemicals. The Deodorant Stone is a product for men, women and teens who care about their health and their bodies.

Very Easy to use -- in any form --- for the stone... just moisten and apply to your body as you would any other type of roll on product. If you want to save the effort in moistening the stone... (always looking to save an extra keystroke, etc.) ... simply take a shower first, and then take the dry stone, and roll it on .. no need to moisten first. (I like that.)

HOW DOES IT WORK ???

SIMPLE... The residue of the stone (basicly potassium alum) ... inhibit the growth of the bacteria that causes odor. It's as simple as that. This is not an anti-perspirant... It simply elimates the bacteria growth that cause odor, and hence no unpleasant body odors.

Does it contain that Aluminum Hydroxyl ??/ whatever.

No, the chemical found in most drug store deodorants is not contained in the Thai Crystal Deodorant Stone. (p.s. I have to look up the exact spelling of that chemical that everyone is afraid of... I don't like the word fear by the way... ) (I'll update this sight in a few days with the correct name of that compound.)

OTHER FORMS OF DEOD STONES . . Thai Deodorant Stone (medium) Small stone w/bag Thai Roll on Deod Also comes as a Liquid Spray ... or as a push-up stick...
