Sunrise on the Grand Tetons

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Image was made as the sun was rising and illuminating the Grand Teton range, with reflection in Jackson Lake (Colter Bay). Nikon N90S, Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AF-D, 1/320 @ f8, E100S. Thanks.

Beautiful color, nice reflections. I was thinking what an awsome panoramic this would make appropriately cropped.

Very nice snow-covered mountains and reflections, but there isn't much foreground to speak of, so I too agree that cropping to a panorama may be a better choice. Was the color altered in Photoshop? It look very pink to me.

Thanks for the comments. I considered a panoramic cropping, but opted to leave it full frame, as I prefer the graduated sky, and calm serenity of the early morning lake surface. This is printed full frame with no manipulation in PS other than an adjustment to the levels and unsharp masking.

On a recent loop through Oregon, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho I was fortunate enough to come away with, what I believe to be, some nice images. What I don't like about this one is the abrupt end of the range on the right side. Even with my 20mm I couldn't get a composition I was happy with, and with a telephoto, I couldn't get enough of the range to convey grandeur. This was the best compromise. But I like it overall, nonetheless.

Stan I used to cowboy about 7 miles from the lake, I know just how pink the mountians can get, a nice photo. Do you think a longer tele would help bring the mts. closer and shorten the lake and still contain the reflections? I don't know about now but when I was working in this country you could stick you camera in your saddlebags and travel the back country on horseback, only about 10% of this park can be seen from the roads. Pat - Yes, longer focal lengths worked as you suggested, however it was at the expense of the overall "width" of the range. I really wanted to have my cake and eat it, too, I suppose :-)

Nice place to be a cowboy.
