greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just posted a thread "ALL THIS BALONEY ABOUT "PENTAGON PAPERS"AND THE NAVY REPORT IS JUST A DISTRACTION! THE GPS ROLLOVER IS TODAY! SAY GOODBYE TO POWER!" there were a few answers one was "Ingnore post... this is from a well-known troll."

What makes me a troll? Because I want to keep people focused on the issue? Because I am concerned about others?

Is this a click only club?

Never mind. I just remembered. Even though time and time again the moderators say "you are welcome to post anonymously" they don't really mean it.

That is the problem, isn't it? the anonymiser.com domain?

Some of us don't feel like being traced. The .gov is EVER

-- Tempest (in@tea.pot), August 21, 1999.

This is just too important to let one or two people shut me up. Here is my post my warning to all! Please take heed!

Shut down all appliances. Trip the breaker to your house. When the GPS system crashes at midnight power is going start fluctuating. Without proper synchronazation, there will be meltdowns and rolling brownouts/blackouts!

This navy paper thing stinks to heaven! it is a DISTRACTION so we will fall prey to the disruptions! Seperate yourself from the grid NOW!

Batten down the hatches, the roughest ride in history begins at the stroke of twelve!

-- Tempest (in@tea.pot), August 21, 1999.

Your post was designed for maximum flame appeal. If you are serious, about GPS considerations, then rephrase your question to be more "discussion oriented."

TBY2K Sysop

(BTW, you leave a "long" trail).

Hey Tempest, with proper sync everything will be fine. Did it ever occur to you that the gps equiptment is cheap to replace and its been done.

Maybe poor fishermen in Morroco fishing for Anchovies will have a problem, but I will be watching "COPS!" at 8pm when the GPS does its switcheroo and everything will be fine. Since you will be off the grid, can I tape anything for you on TV and send it to you when you take off your tinfoil hat and turn your power back on ?.

"click" is something you do with your mouse, you mean "clique"...

-- zoobie (zoobiezoob@yahoo.com), August 21, 1999.

Thanks Diane : )

There is a lot of information out there regarding GPS that seems to go against your position including that the system will fail at "midnight". Do you have a url or any other source you can point us to?

Also, you might want to consider what would happen to the grid if everyone suddenly decided to disconnect from it. I'm pretty clueless about power generation and distribution but I think you might be looking at a self-fulfilling prophecy.

-- Michael Taylor (mtdesign3@aol.com), August 21, 1999.

A short lesson for Diane. I read all the threads about censorship and I thought the pollys were attacking you needlessly. I think I now understand the problem.

Diane, if you could take just a few minutes of your time and try something, you will understand that not everyone who posts from anonymizer or keepitsecret is a "troll"

Try this: log in to anonymizer.com and type in the URL of this thread. Make a post yourself from the free section. Now look at the IP. I GUARANTEE the IP will be identical to mine.

Now, does this make YOU a troll as well? :)

In all seriousness, I DO believe this forum is monitored and so I PROTECT myself.

I will be going off the grid in just a few hours. I hope all other GI's will do the same. You can't help anyone else if you lose your computer or phones or heating because of GPS foul-up.

It IS the beginning of the end.

-- Tempest (in@tea.pot), August 21, 1999.

Honestly I don't care who posts from where. Believe that. It's the "shouting" (or attacking) postings, intended to incite flamming that * most* of us take issue with.

I ask simply... if you are serious, about GPS considerations, then rephrase your question to be more "discussion oriented."

Also, it helps if you would provide links to back up your upcoming YELLING FROM THE ROOFTOPS "breakdown" assertions.

-- Diane J. Squire (sacredspaces@yahoo.com), August 21, 1999.

Dr. North has said TONS about this on his website garynorth.com. Y2ksupply.com has it in the timeline. MANY other sources have spoken on this. The time for "links" is over.

I am giving a warning to all who will hear. POWER DOWN YOUR COMPUTER OR IT WILL GET FRIED. Seperate yourself from the grid before it is too late.

I hope all of you have your power preps in place and ready to roll.

Prepare for one rough ride. Goodbye

-- Tempest (in@tea.pot), August 21, 1999.

I'm looking forward to posting this Tinfoils "warning" tomorrow...

-- Y2K Pro (y2kpro1@hotmail.com), August 21, 1999.

Tempest, out of curiosity, why didn't you post this a week or two ago??

-- Ray (ray@totacc.com), August 21, 1999.

Dress rehearsal

The concerns about GPS receivers are serious enough to prompt some industry observers to describe the weekend of Aug. 21-22 as a "dress rehearsal" for what might happen Jan. 1, 2000, to businesses and households that haven't inoculated themselves against the Y2K bug.

"We are going to be carefully watching what happens on that weekend," said Jon Huntress, an associate producer for Year2000.com, a Web site that has been tracking Y2K issues since 1995. "If there are significant problems with the GPS, then it could make people work even harder to fix Y2K problems. If nothing happens, everyone will probably just yawn and say everyone was crying wolf again."

-- Linkmeister (link@librarian.edu), August 21, 1999.

Linkmeister, your post here was the most constructive in this thread. Tempest does need to ration use of caps. Most importantly, I think this individual may post the way he/she does in order to make Y2K GIs look foolish. If so, this would make Tempest an "agent provocateur". There are others of this ilk on this forum as well; watch out for them. They will discredit us if we don't expose them. (from a 9.5)

-- MinnesotaSmith (y2ksafeminnesota@hotmail.com), August 21, 1999.

No one takes you people here seriously anymore anyway.

-- Sempronius (sempronius@netzero.net), August 21, 1999.

I hope you ;eave your computer on during the crisis. Us tinfoils will be glad to be rid of your stupid ass for a while.

-- die pollys (screw@you.loser), August 21, 1999.

As an advocate for the common man your position is curious.

BTW, kind of wish the Nubians had enslaved your 20,000. Think we might have favored better if Carthage had won.

You know,

It's 8:15 p.m EST and all is well on the east central coast of Florida other than we have a raging thunderstorm. Even with the storm, the power is still on.

-- Norm (Prez22@aol.com), August 21, 1999.

Somebody go over to Tempest's house and knock on his door and tell him he can turn on his power again.

I mean go in his backyard and lift the lid on his bunker and yell down to him he can turn on his power again.

-- Fat Tony (FatTony@youmammashouse.com), August 21, 1999.

Yeah Fat Tony, I agree with you. There are too many people around this forum wound a WEE bit too tightly.

Tempest, it is 5:30 am here in California and my power is still on, no smoking appliances, etc. Though I appreciate Gary North's work much of the time I do think you need to try to put his writings in context (because he is so good at taking things OUT of context).

Borrowing from Diane, *sigh*
