I have some gallon jars from restaurants but am searching for a place to purchase some. Any help with my wild goose chase would be appreciated.

Patricia,

I just ended up buying gallon jars of dill pickles for $2-3 a piece. I have a neighbor's family that eats them by the ton, so the pickles didn't go to waste. I never found a source for new ones.

Patricia,

Years ago when I was in the restaurant business, I sold used gallon jars, clean, complete with kids for .25 each. Or if you took 5 or more, they were free! No, I don't have any more jars, but your message just made me smile in remembrance of folks who asked about buying them and the answer I gave them.

Look in the yellow pages of a large city for "containers" and start there. Or do a web search. I used to buy them 4 to a cs in Seattle.

You can get all the glass jars you want by going to those "lunch wagons" which sell a lot of hot dogs. Every time i stop by, my local one gives me a few. They love to get rid of them. Probably any local Subway place would also do so.

Patricia, I found them at the Dollar Store

Gerald, that was an interesting post above. I just happen to be in the market for a couple of kids, do you still have any even if they dont come with jars? (teen agers would be better than little ones.)

Judy,

That's where I get mine, 4 or 5 o month.

I asked the two local Subway places to save them for me, WITH lids (no more Kids thanks), and get from 4 a week to three a day depending on the season and how busy they are.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate your insights.

Roger--

I don't have any jars OR kids left. Got lots of grandkids, though, but don't have any of them for sale or "for free". I guess you do know that 'kids' was supposed to have been 'lids'.

Somewhere iin my heap of catalogs and magazines I have a catalog from a container company that sells all kinds of glass and metal and plastic containers. Can't find it at the moment, but I remember being surprised at how expensive new one-gallon jars were. At least a couple of dollars each, plus shipping. Around here, the only thing that still comes in glass gallon jars is olives, and we get jars from restaraunts that have salad bars and use lots of olives. Mayonaisse, pickles, etc., all seem to be supplied in either plastic gallons, or in plastic 5 gallon buckets.
