Lord's Pentagon Papers are the tip of the iceberg...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

What we all want to know is, what about the rest of us??? What about the NON-naval towns and cities???

Where's c4i when we need him? - we need another whistelblower from the NSA or CIA or Army or USAF to get this information out...

Let's face it, I know it, you know it (weeelll, all apart from y2k pro, flint, ddecker and hoff), what sickens me is that Joe 6-Pack

WILL NOT GET IT AT ALL IF KOSKINEN GETS HIS WAY UNTIL JANUARY 1st 2000

end result = catasrophe

Yes, Andy.

And the iceberg is THE SIZE OF RHODE ISLAND!!!

-- pshannon (pshannon@inch.com), August 19, 1999.

Looks like, if this document is real, it is a summation of the risks to various naval bases. It is supposedly in the format of a multi-page spreadsheet printout with no identifying logos or mastheads. This I have gathered by exploring the Gary North website.

That it does not identify ALL the cities at risk is explained by the fact that all cities don't have naval bases. You won't find a lot of midwest coverage on this document for obvious reasons.

They're 'obviously' too stupid to wonder what our other military bases know!

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), August 19, 1999.

Andy...I was wondering where you were.

If this is the tip of the iceburg then I wonder if the majority of we, the people, will still be on the deck of the Titanic crying "this ship is unsinkable! YOU told us this ship cannot sink!" while the Rhode Island size berg is popping the rivets out underneath our feet.

I'm very curious to see if the mainstream, network news pays any attention to this at all.

Tomorrow and the next few days should be interesting. If the White House comes out tomorrow and starts trying to play damage control or just plain spills the beans then I think Joe 6-Pack has a fighting chance. Koskinen tried hard to control this story but I don't think he was nearly as good as he hopes he was. The jig may be up.

Let's all remember to play nice and be courteous and helpful with all the newbies that will no doubt be finding us soon : )

Mike

I didn't see Chicago mentioned. The Navy has a major training facility there: Great Lakes Naval Training Station. What's the deal?

-- gizmo (gizmo@usa.net), August 19, 1999.

gizmo,

It's in there...Waukegan Il. North of Chicago.

-- Deborah (infowars@yahoo.com), August 19, 1999.

I don't think spilling the beans will help "Joe Six Pack" (I hate that phrase, as often ordinary people are quicker and much more human than Joe Cell Phone). It just means a fight over supplies and cash and an earlier starvation for many. We're at the point at which only our own urging of others to supply themselves will do anyone any good. Because not everyone is going to make it. There isn't enough "stuff."

-- Mara Wayne (MaraWAyne@aol.com), August 19, 1999.

There is evidence that the Jim Lord "papers" are indeed legitimate. An article in the Washington Post (posted at 7:27 pm EDT) link. Or you can get to the Post article from the Matt Drudge site. According to the Post article: "Koskinen...vouched for the authenticity of the Navy report..." The article goes on to quote Koskinen as saying that the Navy report was all "worst-case predictions for failures".

Andy, calm down, according to C4i, the runs will begin in Sept-Oct. We have less than 15 days till Sept then 60 days to watch and see. Remain calm, take a deep breath, the fun is about to begin or terror whichever way you want to look at it. We are 1-hour away from Art Bell's show, Gary North will be the guest speaker...chow!

Oh OK relax, my mind is now at ease :)

"I'm very curious to see if the mainstream, network news pays any attention to this at all."

Mike,

I just heard a 30 second summary of the story on CBS radio network news. It's a start.

Tick... Tock... <:00=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), August 20, 1999.

Hubby and I heard a 'snippet' of a story about this on CNN radio this evening. I turned to him and told him to hang onto his hat. Was REAL surprised to hear them say anything. We had been out running errands, and had not known that the Washington Post and others had picked up on it. My, my, my!

-- Wilferd (WilferdW@aol.com), August 20, 1999.

Gary North is now putting out the "scare" on banks on nationwide radio on Art Bell's show... North cites a little known FDIC rule that states that a customer's receipts are not valid for proof in any bank insurance claim. That means that only a bank's records is valid proof. BUT, IF the banks records are scrambled or gone...then the customer has no valid proof, therefore, no valid claim. In other words folks, your money is "toast" in any bank that loses its records!!! This is AMAZING if true. IF the Feds don't make a move to "spin" North's assertions...we could see bank runs real quick. Like within hours... that is, if anyone believes North. Hang on folks, the roller coaster may be about to take off prematurely. I really had begun to believe that nothing would happen to shake public confidence until 1/1/00 now...IF the media really picks up on this ... the stampede could begin real quick.

Wilferd... how ya all doing? That Navy report doesn't mention your home area cause there's no Navy or Marine facilities in Kansas City. IF they did...I'm sure they'd cite many of those electric utilities also.

Banking -- withdraw early and withdraw often. Convert to food, water/water treatment, and precious metals (like lead and brass).

-- A (A@AisA.com), August 20, 1999.

Deborah,

Can you give me any particulars about the Navy's assessment of the Y2K situation in Chicago?

Thanks!!

-- gizmo (gizmo@usa.net), August 20, 1999.

Paul Harvey carried the Navy report as his second lede item this morning, after the Turkey quake. The lightning is flashing right over the herd now. What IS that rumble?

Kosky crapping himself...

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), August 20, 1999.

gizmo,

From the "partial failure is probable" list:

Waukegan, Il - water (kind of ironic,Waukegan is costal on Lake Michigan....)

Forest Park, Il.(western suburb/urban sprawl) - water/sewers

Neither suburb is wealty, so I'm not exactly shocked, keep in mind that Chicago supplies water to all of the surrounding suburbs.

need coffee...hope this makes sense ;-)
