Jane boards NOT up Aug 17

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Good Swift Kick : One Thread

I just e-mailed the webmaster. He said the boards will NOT be up today, so we can all stop holding our breath.

I wish they had planned this better! It should not take this long to install a registration system, unless they had to reinvent the wheel first or something.

No Kidding

How hard is it to put up a new reg system? Is Jane herself doing it from a laptop at home? I need something to do, damnit!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I'm so bummed. I wish they were back up. Maybe it's tougher than they thought it would be.

hey, it is the Jane webmaster....I picture a monkey....in front of a laptop.....

definitely a registration system shouldn't take that long, but given that the rest of the website rarely gets updated either, I'm guessing they don't put any effort into maintaining the site. Sad, really.

Still, I'll wait. And be disappointed.

have you heard when it will be up?

Every email I've sent has bounced but since people are getting through (just what is the right email addy???) I'm wondering did Webmaster say when it would be up?

Theory on the Jane boards

Okay, we'll call this the lone gunman theory: if you go to www.fairchildpub.com, you'll notice that Fairchild has a website for almost all of their magazines. They have, what, eight or nine magazines? Most of the sites SUCK. I'm willing to bet that the site with the most traffic was Jane, and that was purely because of the boards, because believe me "Cybergirl's Best of the Net" would NOT have brought me back for a second look. This is just a guess, but I think that one webmaster is in charge of all of these pages. Notice that the webmaster address is NOT webmaster@janemag.com, or whatever, but it's blahblah@fairchildpub.com. So if this one guy is in charge of all this shit, no wonder he doesn't have time to do something SIMPLE like fix the freaking boards! Just a guess...

The webdude, or webchick could surely handle a few websites and not have it take up almost three weeks to accomplish a simple task.

Fairchild Publications websites can't have a whole lot going on because rarely does anything on Jane ever gets updated, save for an article or two but if you look through the archives, I'd be willing to guess that the webmaster rarely does anything there. Laughably, stuff like makeunder and Daily dish have been the same ones as when I first started showing up....( woo hoo.)

That maybe be true

I dunno, it may be true. I was just guessing. All I know is that the freaking boards STILL aren't up!

check the archives and you'll see that very little was updated since march.

I'm just annoyed that they can't bother to post updates on their site or give accurate info on just when they'll have it up and running again. a registration system isn't rocket science. Any webmaster with any relative intelligence should have one installed after that long a shutdown.
