Helluva news day, huh?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It was quite a day for Y2K news! I haven't seen a day like this in quite a while, and still, I feel like I missed a bunch. Here's the brief from today's Sanger's Review of Y2K News Reports:

GAO: "Only Iowa, Nebraska and North Dakota have completely tested their computer systems and are ready" for Y2K ... Citigroup's SEC 10-Q: expect to spend $950 million on remediation ... fight between companies and insurers over claims is starting ... Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Utah "did not accurately report the status of two of three mission-critical systems" ... local story about family in Michigan causes outrage ... Militia groups may cooperate with FBI ... FBI concerned that Y2K may spur hate group activity ... New York City replaces computing infrastructure ... "Commodity markets are living in fear of global disruption resulting from millennium bug problems" ... will Asian countries "simply switch off critical systems as clocks tick"? ... GPS rollover on Saturday at 13 seconds before 7 p.m. EDT ... NBC Made for T.V. movie: "Y2K" ... Australia National Infrastructure Forum: small business is the risk ... Armageddon or Hoax? ... Y10K

pshannon, it was indeed! Thanks a million for all your hard work, I always look forward to recieve Sanger's review in my mailbox. Thought I'd take advantage of this thread to thank you :-)

Thank YOU, Chris.

I wish I could say it was my pleasure, but...

Thanks Pshannon for including the Stitt info. I've been reading Sanger's Review since finding Gary North! Your assessment of this story's potential is on the money, and I thank you for your attention to it!

I suppose next, we'll be hearing from Burger King's lawyers......of course, only if they read PRO's posts!

Wc,

Does anyone read 'Pro's posts? Gold is looking better, maybe MCI will tell us it's just " normal practice to run untested software ", no biggie, " we'll get it fixed in a few days ". LMAO, ROTF

A second thank you, pshannon.

It's amazing the mental cycles we've all gone through trying to peek through the curtain over the future with regard to y2k.

In April it seemed everybody had lost sight of it, and we were grasping at tiny things to keep on focus ("I knew it was in here, somewhere...")

Now there's plenty to share with the public, but the mix of attitudes is still baffling.

Maybe doing a daily review keeps your focus steady on it?

We could use a daily digest here on TB2000 -- I'd probably just read the digest and skip the rest -- I'm clicking on so many FEWER threads than before, probably missing great contributions down the threads I don't enter...

Forest for trees. This forum is my early warning system. I need a filter. Something to help me see when something new pops up, in quality or in quantity.

We have the community here -- that's good -- so much repetition, though -- people are at different stages in their y2k approach so it's understandable. Anyway, my time spent here is diminishing -- on to "real life".

One regret I have about the forum is that people with good things to say are often "too considerate" and don't start a thread, but only respond to those already begun. It's almost impossible to estimate where the quality postings will be down which threads! Aarrgghhh!

jor-el,

Sometimes you get to a point where you say "enough already!"

All I still "know" at this point is it all feels like were running the Y2K river.

We've entered the top of the gorge, which narrows between steep cliffs that can't be easily scaled. As a planet, the water is starting to move swifter now, and if you read the water signs, you watch for the "V" and aim your raft (or kayak) and the mid-point. We're not into the white water yet, but you can hear the rapids up ahead. We're committed to run this thing, and theres no turning back. Some people have well stocked rafts and a community approach to river running. Most are floating downriver, in the water, without lifejackets.

Sometimes, ya just gotta go through something to get to the other side. Do it the best you can... and relax.

That other sound barely audible up ahead could be a waterfall. Might be a 10 foot drop, may be a 200 foot drop. Who knows?

Strap in... and commit yourself to a wild ride. (Could be fun... or not).

Diane

(Good job Patrick!)

What happens when we put one foot in the past and one foot in the future jor-el? We stay in place.

A cure for this going-no-where mental state is to either quit coming to the Forum cold turkey (at least for a long time, as I did), or join the FRL community thread. But you must remain vigilant, you're never really cured, relapses are very common.
