Welcome to the new OK forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

Welcome. You have found the new Orienteer Kansas question and answer and discussion forum. This is a place for everyone to ask questions about orienteering (with a focus on orienteering in Kansas and the Lawrence-KC area), provide answers to questions others have posted, discuss Orienteer Kansas news/events/rumors/etc., and have general orienteering discussions.

I created this forum as an experiment. I plan to give it a couple of months. If it seems to be useful, it will stay here. If it never gets used, I'll remove it. (The forum was created in mid-August, 1999).

Let the discussion begin.

Glad to see such quick response to the new OK forum. (We'll have to come up with a good name for the forum)...

I noticed you asked a couple of questions in your first message. Maybe you can ask those same questions as a new thread. I bet you'll get better responses to your training questions if they are under title other than "Welcome to the new OK forum"!.

I will add a link from the main OREAD page soon. I wanted to keep the forum slightly hidden for the first few days -- until I had a good understanding of how it is working....

Michael

Mike, I think it would be a good idea to make this page accessible from the main OK web page, rather than having to figure out that it is on the subpage of current news. Now, for the good stuff. How does one train alone, with little access to maps and in the middle of the 'green' season? Right now, I'm figuring that *what* I need to train is the ability to go from map to terrain and back again. Thus, maybe I could get USGS maps and walk trails and practice my map reading that way. Other ideas?
