Dan, ActivePlayer plays VCD's and this program is pre-installed with Win'98, and most other MPEG player such as the Xing movie player can get the job done.

If you want the best playback try one of the Cyberlink players such as Powerdvd or Powerplayer, 30 day trial versions are available and you can see the difference in playback on those software programs - worth the money if your serious about getting the best vision possible. Both can be used with high speed CDROMs as well, my 36x works fine with both programs - Powerplayer has more options and will be great when it finally makes it beyond the trial stage.
