A Cheapskate plant rooting tip from an Old Rose Rustler

Kevins tomato plant rooting post set off a thought bomb in my mind.

Antique roses are enjoying a comeback these days. In the west we have people who go around to the old homesteads and take slips from old roses for rooting.

The secret ingredient for a successful Rose Rustler is willow water. Those of you who have let pussy willows stand too long in a vase know how quickly wilows can take root. To make willow water: chop willow pieces into bits and let stand in a bucket of water overnight or so. Thats too much work for me, I just put a sprig or two of willow in the water with whatever I want to root. Works like a charm!

Studies have shown that willows have a hormone that fosters easy rooting, sorry - I dont remember its name off the top of my head.
