240 volt pump/solar, without batteries?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

Until recently, I have understood that a person could power a D.C pump directly from solar panels, utilizing a special type of control box, which enables the pump to run intermittently; however, an A.C. pump would require a battery supply and an inverter.

Recently, though, I was looking at a site (Grundfos.com) which implies that they have a way to power a 240 volt A.C pump without batteries, using only an inverter.

Any pump experts around who can confirm/deny? (I already wrote Grundfos, but have not received an answer after two weeks.)

Answering my own post here; Grundfos DOES have a way to run an AC pump directly off solar panels. The pump has a three phase motor, and they have a very fine looking control box.
