All-In-Wonder 128

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I recently purchased an AIW 128. According to the specs I can select Mpeg1 video with Mpeg1 layer-2 audio. I set everything according to white book, but the .mpg it creates is still not compliant according to EZCD VCD creator.. Help.... Please...

Try opening it in IFilmEdit, enable the VCD settings and re-output the file. Sounds like the AIW128 isn't setting the VCD bits.

How is the capture quality?

The capture quality is kind of choppy. But when I set the motion estimation fairly high its much better. I also get an echoy effect using SPDIF input (fiber optic toslink from DSS to SB-live digital I/O). I dont know wether thats a sound card problem or a compression problem. But it sounds fine when just watching TV on the screen. I have tried just about every format to make the Mpeg white book. I think I may have to make .avis and use an encoder. I dont have the Ifilm program you are talking about. I was thinking about using Xing for encoding. If I go this route what quality should I make the recording in .AVI? My goal is to produce as high quality as possible programs and movies off DSS using S-video and digital audio inputs.

You can get IfilmEdit at Cinax.com. There is a demo version for download, but I'm not sure of it's limitations.

If you are going to capture to avi and encode with Xing capture at the highest possible settings. Encoding takes a really long time.
