Sony DSC F-55 vs. Kodak DC265

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Trying to buy a digital camera, whether Sony F-55 or Kodak DC 265. How to choose from? any comments regarding these cameras?

Sony seems to have better picture quality and LCD but no optical zoom available. kodak has zoom and viewfinder feature but the LCD is bad comparative and overall performance is not as good as Sony (I think) need comments.

Sony has "washed out colors". Kodak gives much better colors, but they are, in fact over-saturated (although they look much better when compared side-by-side with other digicams). Kodak is cheaply made, but the zoom is a definite "must-have". You might also consider the new Olympus D450z, the upgrade/update to the original D400z. Faster, better overall, and handy "pocket-size" with MSRP of $499, probably cheaper on the web at buy.com, when it comes out later.

I don't find the comment of WASHED OUT colors to be true. In good lighting conditions I feel the camera excelles. And it's small, easy to store.

I will admit that it doesn't handle mixed lighting very well and it may be digital alteration that left the impression of poor colors. If you keep your frame in a constant lighting (in the sun, in the shadow, but not both) I think you will be as impressed as I was as to how true the color really is. If you like I will send you some unretouched images... you decide.
