The Sugar Bowl on 1/2/00

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The Sugar Bowl game and celebration in New Orleans is scheduled for 1/2/00 to 1/5/00. Lots and lots of folks show up for this event. Is it possible that the emergency planners, simply anticipating Y2K problems, will cancel the Sugar Bowl because they want to keep the tourist traffic as low as possible? If you were an emergency planner, when would you decide to take control of the entrance and exit routes into New Orleans: three weeks, one week, one day before the Sugar Bowl? Keep in mind that as an emergency planner your job is to make decisions well before the emergency, not after. The concern, of course, is that the supply routes are clear *in the event* Y2K causes major problems.

I don't think they will cancel anything. Keep the sheeple stupid and hope for the best.

Yup-- he's right. they won't cancel anything. no bank withdrawal limits either, because as soon as they do, that's when people wake up.

"you're limiting my withdrawals of MY MONEY?? WHY?" "because of y2k ma'am" in her head --(OH SNAP!)

Big Dog:

Since I live in New Orleans, I can say, without a doubt, that they WILL NEVER CANCEL A PARTY. And then consider this: Mardi Gras is usually at the end of February - the world would have to end before Mardi Gras is cancelled!! (I'm not saying I agree with this "let's party" philosophy - that's just the way it is here.)

Life is a bowl of cherries, sugar. Scarlett, we've developed an appreciation for Nola from afar, thanks to Anne Rice's vivid lush descriptions ;^)

Big Dog, Is this you?

I predict rioting, murder and mayhem in New Orleans on Jan 1. It will be even worse if there is some kind of computer glitch.

The Sugar Bowl will not be canceled. (Is the Superdome's playing field below sea level?)

BD,

I work in Sports. There will be a game.

BTW, your address is not one that I remember nor does it receive mail.

Ashton and Leska:

Yes, Anne Rice's books give very vivid descriptions of New Orleans - and she likes to include a lot of juicy details!

Puddintame:

I agree with you about the riots and mayhem - we're hoping to bug out before they start. I don't think we have anything above sea level - so right now we're keeping our eyes open for hurricanes - if we survive the hurricane season.........I guess there's more to come!!!
