Anyone See ED YOURDON on TV Last Night???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Mr Yourdon appeared on the Inspirational Channel last night in an hour long segement entitled "Y2K: An International Perspective". I had posted this in a previous thread. Unfortunately, my VCR hosed up and I missed it.

Anyone see it? Was it a new show or a rebroadcast?

Ed, if you read this, I would greatly appreciate any synopsis you could provide.

Thanks!

I didn't see it, but I saw Dr. Douglass Carmichael last week and he said even though the US has made great strides in their Y2K remediations, he is still not optimistic about the future and feels that we will have major problems. He said that it would be prudent for everyone to prepare......

Roland,

Huh? I wasn't aware of the TV program. This sort of things seems to happen quite a lot, both with the cable-TV channels and also the main networks. They re-broadcast shows that were taped months earlier, and they pull clips and snippets from long-ago interviews to fit into whatever new program they're putting together.

I recall participating in a TV interview/panel-discussion back in April, which provided some commentary on one of Senator Bennett's hearings -- and as I vaguely recall, it might have been the one that focused on international issues.

In any case, though, I haven't done any media interviews, discussions, or other such activities since my participation in the Senate hearing in late May. Given my experience with the media during the past couple of years, it's doubtful that I'll do anything this fall when interest picks up. It would be great if a TV program like the "Charlie Rose" show decided to focus on Y2K for a full hour, in a format that would allow both "pro" and "con" spokesmen get into some real depth ... but the sound-bite style of journalism has done little, in my opinion, to provide any useful perspective on Y2K for the general public.

I was able to catch about 2 minutes of the program...my 6 year old was having a sleep over and I could barely hear above the din!

Ed, I honestly can't say if you were being interviewed. I heard serveral referrences to your name and it could be they were showing clips of your previous appearances. I'm going to try to get a copy of the transcript from the station.

On the bright side, they were advertising your books as excellent resources for preparing. And it looks like they might start devoting Saturday evenings to Y2K. This coming Saturday, they'll have a 30 minute spot called "Y2K: The Coming Storm" at 9:30 PM.

Best to you and yours. If I can get the transcript, I'll post details.

Ed,

A quick update. I found their website (www.insp.com) . Evidently you did an interview with David Cerullo, who is the CEO of the Inspirational Network, in March. I believe what they aied last night was a portion of that interview. The transcript from that interview is available on their website.

Their segment on the 14th will focus on preparedness...wouldn't be surpised to hear from you again at that time!
