< The Postal Service relies on goods and services provided by others to support its complex, nation-wide delivery network and has invested significant resources to assess the readiness of its suppliers. These outreach efforts indicate that the USPS' 271 critical, national suppliers are now, or expect to be, Year 2000 ready. The Postal Service is finalizing business continuity plans for all critical business processes. Rehearsals of these plans are anticipated in August and November, in preparation for the fiscal and calendar year rollovers. In addition, recovery management planning is well underway, to assist personnel in identifying, tracking, and resolving Year 2000-related problems should they arise. The Postal Service has also discussed mailing plans with Federal agencies, to enhance its operational preparations for the date change.>>

I hope this pasted. It's the postal service statement, which seems to feel it will be ready. Important to have postal service. Of course, what they don't say, is that this is dependent on electricity and on transportation--two sectors that declare to be fairly ready. What we don't know is to what extent the declarations of readiness are true and to what extent failures will cascade. On the whole the report is optimistic. Still prepping. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. There will be economic impact, for sure, and we will eat next year.
